Default FMS Flight simulator

On advice from another forum the FMS Flight simulator http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html was a recommended learning tool, however as i have to control the plane using 20 different keys on my keyboard instead of an actual flight radio i find it very confusing and dont really see the benefits of this sim..Am i missing something?

Yes. Go pick up a $10 Playstation 2 like joystick for your PC at Target, Circuit City, CompUSA. It has 2 separate joystick that somewhat resemble the TX you will use to fly the plane. Logitech makes a decent one that connects to the USB port for $15.

Go to the "Wattflyer.com" forum. There is a terrific thread in the Beginners section regarding the FMS simulator.

Depending on your transmitter, you might be able to get a cable so that you can conect it to the PC.

I have not bothered. I just use the PC arrow keys for ailerons and elevator, and (the G and B keys for throttle). If I position my fingers well, I can kind of imagine that I am moving a stick instead of pushing buttons. It is not realistic but it gives me the point of view and orientation.

you can get connector cable to usb or serial adapter for most all radios. I bought one from Tom's R/C store on ebay. he is really helpful and answered all of my questions. It cost me 40 bucks for the cable to my transmitter and a cd with software and about 900 different planes/ helis to fly. I have let friends use it to leard to fly and they said it helped. i knew how to fly before i bought it.
