Default KIEF Fun-Fly - update 2/22

Update 2/22

I was by the dome this afternoon. The funfly will DEFINATELY NOT be next weekend. They are now awaiting direction from the insurance company. The owner that we deal with just wants to get it done and worry about the insurance later but the other owners want to wait for the insurance company. We will look to reschedule the KIEF but can't do that till they are better aware of the completion of the repairs themselves.

We will communicate the new date if one can be arranged. Again, we won't know till the repairs are complete.

Thanks..........Mark

Press Release: 2/15/07

Looks like old man winter will probably put a crimp in our fun next month. Reports have been confirmed that the Dome outside of Scranton that was set to host the Keystone Indoor Electric Fly on March 2nd & 3rd has collapsed due from the winter storm that just passed through our area. Lots of snow and a bunch of rain added to the weight. One of our members was briefly talking with the owner the evening after the collapse. The owner is not sure if there is any structural damage or not at this point as the dome is under a lot of snow at this time. Another dome about 25 minutes away also suffered the same fate as of reports we’ve heard Wednesday evening.

FORTUNATELY no one was in the dome when it failed.

The KIEF fun fly is an uncertainty at this point gentleman. It's tough writing this as we have put so much work into this event and the turnout was looking to be huge! Folks planned on traveling from as far away as Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, and Connecticut to have a nice time flying with us. Lots of sponsors and vendors stepping up to support us and now this.

Once we know for certain the outcome of the situation, which at this time is unknown, we will communicate to all as best and as fast as possible. We will also get in touch with the sponsors and return all items donated to the fun fly if indeed it inevitably must be canceled.

We hope to have more info as soon as possible.

Let's cross our fingers and hope the repairs and re-inflating can be made and The Playing Fields Sports Dome business is up and running again soon.

Regards,
Mark Vukmanovich

Press Release: Keystone Indoor Electric Fly
==================================

Winter in the northeast has settled upon us once again. Many of us will retire to the basement workshop to build our next plane or helicopter, only to dream of the day that the weather once again will permit us to fly our newest pride and joy. This is where the Keystone Indoor Electric Fly (KEIF) comes in. Finally a break from building and an opportunity to fly during the cold winter months in a climate controlled 400’ x 200’ sports dome, one of the largest sports domes in the entire northeast!

One cannot only fly, but fly with your friends and what is sure to become new friends as well. Fly next to top pilots and industry leading designers, columnists, engineers, authors, and pioneers in our hobby such as Jon Leyland, Chris Maier, Bob Hunt, Dean Pappas, Joe Malinchak, Dan Landis and Jersey Jim Martin. Pull them aside and ask them about their flying styles, set-ups, techniques, new products and insights or simply just to shake hands and say, “Hiâ€. Watch amazing demo flights by pilots whose modeling bios include XFC, TOC, Masters, E-TOC, and AMA Nationals. Enjoy information exchange at its highest in one of the several seminars throughout the event. Gasp in amazement as you see, up close, the smallest of small micro r/c airplanes and helicopters! Watch these meticulously crafted micro machines fly at weights of a fraction of an ounce!

This two-day event to be hosted at The Playing Fields Sports Dome (www.the-playing-fields.com) near Scranton, PA will also have a new twist. The Keystone Indoor Electric Fly will have planes in the air starting on Friday afternoon, March 2nd as pilots pile on in (some pilot confirmations as far away as Chicago already!) and continue NON-STOP until Saturday evening the 3rd. That’s right, an R/C all-nighter! Those that can only make Saturday will still find tons of fun and great flying as well as several vendors specializing in electric and indoor electric flight. Currently, our event will be featured in four separate columns in Model Aviation and Fly R/C magazines as well as several on-line communities and local TV and radio stations. We’re expecting a large turnout of electric enthusiasts!

Please see our website located at www.simodels.com/keystone_flyin for more information, directions, hotels and event rules. If you or your company would be interested in being an event sponsor, let one of the event coordinators know. There are also some limited vendor spots open but hurry, spaces ($50/per 10' x 10" area) are filling fast. As of this press release we have vendor confirmations from as far away as Missouri!

Default RE: Huge indoor event in the northeast.

Mark, I can see from all the time and effort spent so far by yourself and fellow staff mambers that this will be a great event. Of all the organized indoor events, I think that this will be the first 'all night flyer'. Any prizes for duration?

Having frequented the sports dome for the last couple of years, I can assure anyone interested that the facility can handle all types of indoor flying.

Really looking forward to this one and hopefully see alot of the talent the northeast has to offer. Should be worth the ride from anywhere in the first four districts. Hope to see you all there and meet some RCU members. Joe

Update, we added another Demo pilot. Dave Lockhart will be doing an F3P indoor precision pattern demo on Saturday. Dave has also agreed to put on a "getting started in indoor pattern" seminar for us as well.

This info will be updated on the site soon.

Thanks........Mark

Default RE: Huge indoor event in the northeast.

Here is the latest update on the KIEF indoor event from Mark V. This event is posted on other forums with considerable response. The ongoing list of spectator/participants, sponsers and demo pilots is growing rapidly. Consider the fact that up here in the northeast quadrant, in the dead of winter, you will be able to visit vendor displays of the latest offerings, watch demos and interact with the pilots listed to date. This is growing rapidly and is solidifying into the cornerstone of many future events. For some of you its right in your own backyard. Hope to see you there. Joe

Hey folks,

We got another demo pilot set up for the funfly. Dave Lockhart will
be doing an F3P indoor pattern demo for us (precision flying). Many
of you know or have heard of Dave Lockhart. Dave has been very
active in pattern competitions for many years. He has competed in
the top FAI-F3A class locally as has finished in the top spots in
many of pattern meets. He also competed in several Nats and finished
as high as 4th! Dave is also sponsored by JR, and Castle Creations,
Eflite, ThunderPower, and Cyclon. F3P indoor pattern is getting VERY
popular all over the world and Dave is at the forefront with it here
in the US. Dave has also been flying demos at the NEAT Fair as well
as called upon for demo flights at the JR Indoor Fest.

It gets better. Dave has also agreed to present a "Getting started
in indoor pattern" seminar for us! With the rising popularity of
this new precision focus, Dave's seminar is sure to be very popular.

We look forwad to having Dave join us at the KIEF in March.

Thanks......Mark

FYI.....for those of you planning on attending the Keystone Indoor Electric Fly (Fri & Sat Mar 2 & 3), Dave Lockhart will be organizing an informal F3P indoor pattern contest. There is a thread started to cover any questions as well as listing the sequences. Let Dave know if you'll be participating. We're hoping to be able to do the whole contest in about 2 hours on Friday night starting around 8:00pm for the pilots meeting in the seminar room.

Update:

I was up at our dome on Saturday helping shovel (me and about 200 other people......nice to see the community support!). The company that sold them the dome will be evaluating the tear today (Huge tear right down one of the seams). They say they can reweld the seams right there on the ground but there is still a lot of work to be done. We hope to know more this week after the evaluation. I'll post more as soon as we fine out.

Please check our website for more updates.
