Want to get a 28-32 oz Zero... which Axi Gold motor?
Hi, I'm hoping to get the OK Model Zero .10 (made for electric), which has a wingspan of 41" and a wing surface area of ~240 sq in. From what I've read, it'll weigh around 28-32 oz. Because of Hobby-Lobby's sale, I'm considering getting an Axi Gold, but am not certain which one woudl be the best fit. The two I'm looking at are:
1. 2217/16, 1050 KV, for 21-42 oz planes. I thought this was a slam dunk for the pick, but then I saw...
2. 2212/26, 920 KV; the catalog says for 10-25 oz, but this is H-L's choice for powering their electric Bird Dog (45" WS, 270 sq in, 31 oz weight).
The 2nd motor is a little cheaper, but is also lighter (2 oz vs. 2.45 oz). I know most people like to overpower planes, but I'm wondering why H-L went for the lighter motor for their Bird Dog (similar dimensions to the Zero).

Close to 1 kilo modelweight. And you should have at least 200Watt input to make the Zero fly good.
Would have chosen the 2217/16. Nearly twice the power over the 2212/26. The 2212/26 is rated at max 12A, and on 3S LiPo you get no more than 120Watt. Enough power to fly the Birddog, but the Zero requires more power.
The range 10-25oz means 10oz 3D - 25oz glider.
