Yes, you can use the C-30ESC and you can use a non-mini receiver.......But I wouldn't. Those two components will add a TREMENDOUS amount of unnecessary weight to that airframe. It's performance will definitely suffer. Those two components will add about 1 1/2 oz to 2 oz of unnecessary weight to a plane which weighs under a pound. The results will not be good.

Always remember with electrics......Weight is your enemy!

Latch66 is right any added weight is bad, but for the Slow Stick you will be fine. It can carry the extra load OK. I have used a standard receiver and standard servos in that plane just fine. The camera adds more weight, so don't push it any further...

I also agree that the Slow Stick can carry the extra weight. It probably isn't the best equipment choice, but it has the power and a large wing surface to stay in flight. I know where you are coming from, any way I can save money, I'll give it a try!

Good luck,

Mike

I use a 30 amp ESC and JR R700 reciever on mine no problem. I've even flown it in 20 mph wind gusts, not a lot of fun, but it is pretty stable.

I would suggets using a balsa stick in the fuse tube to add strength. Makes it about impossible to bend even if you auger it in.

I like the 7 and 8 cell 1100 Mah NiMHs from www.bydusa.com. I get at least 15 minutes on those batteries, usually more. And in the case of the Slow Stick you can definitely use regular sized gear.

Well I just saw that www.bydusa.com is no longer operating. Bummer! The 2/3A 1100 7 cell for $12.50 and 8 cell for $15 were great deals. www.allerc.com has a lot of GWS parts and batteries for good prices.
