what is the diffrence between a out-runner and a in-runner motors

In-runners look similar to the can-type brushed motors you're probably familiar with, while out-runners have a part of the outer motor housing that rotates with the rotor. In general, in-runners typically have lower torque and higher rpms than outrunners. Because of this, in-runners usually need a gear box to spin a prop on most airplanes, with the exception being small diameter props found on small, high speed planes (like the Stryker 27C). Out-runners usually have plenty of torque to spin a prop directly, thus eliminating the need for a gearbox.
