If you and your kids have not flown an R/C plane before, you need a plane that flies slowly! The Slow Stick is a good choice. Another popular first plane is the Hobby Zone Super Cub.

Don't be tempted to get a cool warbird or other fast plane as your first one. That way lies disappointment.

Not many park flyers are gonna last unti "your kids get older"...the GWS Pico Stick is a good one,,flys pretty slow ,but faster than the slow stick...Rog

The two planes that are generally considered the best beginner planes are the HobbyZone SuperCub: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ7100
and the Multiplex EasyStar: http://www.hobby-lobby.com/easystar.htm

I prefer the SuperCub because it has landing gear that allows you to do ground take-oofs and controlled landings (as opposed to hand launches and bellyflops); because it looks like a real plane; and because replacement parts are available at most hobby shops.

Both planes are excellent for beginners, yet can be modified to keep your interest as you get better at flying. Do a search of these planes in the beginner section here on RCUniverse, and in the beginner forums of Wattflyer and RCGroups.
