Default Wattage Super Impress

Just bought this plane today (04/15/03). Was wondering if anyone has it and what they think of it? Or if you have heard anything on it?

Default Wattage Super Impress

Mine came last week and so far I've only read through the instruction book and gone through the kit. It seems well-made and I'm looking forward to assembling it. I have the regular Impress and it is a good flyer on the mostly stock setup. It has a ball-bearing gearbox in it and a new Speed 400 from New Creations. I flew it Monday and the battery packs need exercising after a long winter. It also uses an APC 8x6E prop. Once I clear the workbench, I'll start the Super Impress.

Well just got mine put together and charged the battery so I could break in the motor. Gave the thing full power and I was like WOW. Feels like the thing would fly right out of my hands. Going to fly it this Sunday and I will let you guys know how it did.

Did you use regular or mini servos in the Super Impress and a regular or mico receiver?

Bank and Yank,

Thanks for the reply. How have you enjoyed the airplane? How has it performed?

I just finished my first electric plane, the Wattage Super Impress. Took the maiden flight today and it flies great. Good power. Very disappointed with the flight times of only 3.5 to 4.5 minutes. Would a brushless motor improve this?

How was the balance point on your plane?

With the battery all the way forward, I can only get to the 2.25" balance point. The only weight that is behind the CG point is the two JR 341 servos. THe manual recommends CG at 1.75" for early flights.

I only just finished the model and I can still trim the screws on the control service horns, but I'm not sure how much that do.

I did use a dual servo aileron, but the two JR 341 servos are close to the CG point.

Any suggestions, or will the 2.25" point be ok.

I really enjoyed putting the plane together.

Mark

My buddy did the review for Backyard Flyer. I've flown his a couple of times and it's fun to fly.... but not as fun as my Foamtana- although they are two different beasts.

Look up Frankenthumb (RCU Handle) and see if he has any insight.

So far it's been a really fun plane for me. The Cobalt motor crapped out after a few dozen flights though. My LHS offered to replace it, but I decided not to deal with it any more and bought a speed 480 to replace it. The Cobalt definately had more power. I'm now thinking about going brushless.

I wouldn't recommend doing a maiden flight with the CG at 2.25". I have my CG at the rearward suggested limit (1 7/8") and it's pretty lively.
