Default How to replace an NI-MH with a LiPo battery?

Hi all,

I have bought an F4U Corsair electric plane, that is powered by a brushed 370A motor with gearbox and an Ni-MH 8.4V-650mAh battery.

I am happy with the motor (yes, I enjoy slow flying!) and so I only want to replace the battery for longer flight times.

So my question is, what LiPo should I use for this brushed motor in order to have long flight times and not to burn the motor?

Thank you for any answers!

If that can help, here is the complete profile for the plane where I want to use LiPo:

Motor : 370A with gearbox
Propeller : 9 X 7
Power System : GL-370/DS (1:5.3)
Battery : 9.6V NiMh 650mAh

You'll probably want a 2-cell lipo. The nominal voltage of a 2-cell lipo is 7.4V, but the fully-charged voltage is 8.4V.

To get more flight time, choose a battery with a larger capacity (mAh) than the one you are now using. For example, a 1200 mAh 2-cell lipo will be lighter than your current NiMH pack, so you get a double benefit: more capacity and lighter weight.

You'll also need a battery charger that can handle lipos.

Thanks Jeff. I'll try some 2S 1700mAh I have in stock
