2.4G reciever
I bought a Art-Tech EDF F 18. I was wondering, on the reciever the antena in only about 1 in long. It is a 2.4G radio system, is the antena supose to be that short or do i need to solder a longer one on??

RE: 2.4G reciever
this should be fine as most 2.4 gig receivers only use very short 1 to 2 inch antennas. for piece of mind before you fly the model do a range check.

3.4ghz is i higher frequency, it is up in the microwaves, which is why you have to bind them because alot of microwave radiation is flying around
the higher the frquency the quicker it reaches the vtop and bottom of its wave, so the antenna is proportionally shorter to pick up a full wave,
the most inportant thing is to have the antennas if uve got 2 out the receiver, one in the horizontal plain, and one on the vertical if youve got 1, it doesnt matter too much

2.4GHz antenna are not just a wire. They are coax cables with the last 1/4 wavelength of the inner conductor exposed. This exposed length is somewhat critical and since the none exposed length is really on outer conductor over the inner conductor separated by a specific type insulation, you can not just splice in a section to lengthen it.

Many of the Spektrum receivers just have short wire antennas sticking out of the housing. Some of the newer Spektrum receivers have longer coax antennas with just the last inch or so of antenna wire exposed. See the photos below. The short wires sticking out are just wires, not coax, the longer ones are coax with the actual wire antenna sticking out of the end.
But as Rodney said, the antenna length is critical, so don't mess with it!
