Default Watt's up problem

Hi all

I recently bought this wattmeter but only black "squares" appear when connected to battery.
Anyone know if it needs to be reset or is it defective ??
Battery is connected to "source" and ESC is connected to "load"
Please see attached picture
TIA

Try plugging in battery only, will then show battery voltage. check your leads do battery +/- match meter?
Try plugging in a flight pack only to the other connection. Then attach power batt. system should reset and start.
