what size plane are you wanting? Have a motor size?
Balsa or foam, or a combo?

i like foam, but i'll go for a wood one. i like the 400-480 size planes. i only can only have park flyers because my house is small.......

I just completed designing and now in the construction of a 33inch foam sport aerobatic airplane which I am calling "Da Box" because of the boxy shape. It's not 3D, just a brushed motor with nicads. I live in a retirement complex so no lipo. Cheap foamboard. I enjoy takeoff and landing, hence a taildragger with steerable tailwheel. Scratch built aileron control links, steerable tailwheel, bend my own wire landing gear. Have a geared sp300, 10amps for 15 oz thrust which is comparable to a 400 but only about 1 oz less wgt. This is scratch from the drawing board up.
Here's some pics of the plane and my progress so far. Only if you are really interested in building this one, the plans are in 15 tiled sheets in Turbocad, or in file type .dfx.

hey, do you know how to make tiled plans print to the edge of the page? do i need a special printer 4 that?

feihu 12-03-2006 08:09 PM

RE: rc plane plans????

You need a CAD program for tile printing - there may be other ways, but I don't know.

Have you ever worked with foamboard? Removing the paper could be fustrating until you get the hang of it. With paper removed, the foam is 3/16 in or 4mm thick.

I can try email a sheet to you and see if you can resize it to exactly 8x10.4 inches and print out on an 8.5 x 11 standard page. The page I send will be the entire view of the plans on one tile. Let me know how you make out. I will have to print, scan, and email: so it may take time.

Feihu,
Not exactly my style but I certainly admire your original thought, right thro' to a succesful execution. Wish I could do as well.
Dave.

Dave:

Thanks for the kind words.
What is your style?
If you would like, (no strings attached) I can email these plans to you in .dxf file, or 15 pages w/ ruler to resize the pages.
Flew the plane again today, needed a little downthrust, flies like a gas model, and made 3 tos and landings.

I have since been able to put these plans in pdf format so you will be able to print the 15 sheets on your printer, just be sure you set your printer to full size with NO MARGINS (all margins set to zero).
I have flown this model several times a week since it was built 6 mos ago and it is still going strong. Strictly aerobatic, no 3D, very fast at full throttle yet slows down well for landing.
Will make a check on what the control throws are that I am using so it will be a day or so before I email the plans to you.

DIYMark and MX57: check your email in a couple of days or so.
