Got some more charging information and some questions. I did the AC adapter mod to a Power Hawk charger and discovered something. I put a voltmeter on the charge lead output to monitor it and the charger never cuts off. It stops charging but it's because the battery disconnects from the circuit at a certain point. That must be what the extra board on the new batteries does. I tried charging my AA Bipe with PH battery with the little board removed and it I'm seeing a much lower voltage at the charge lead than with the PH but the motors are spinning faster. I haven't taken it apart to check the actual battery voltage but I'm wondering if anyone else has charged one of these newer batteries without the protection board and checked the voltage. I'm gonna guess it is overcharging the battery but can someone confirm this?

Chris, are you charging throught the factory charge port? If so there is a disconnect built into the plane. That chip is why you can't use a standard lipo charger through that port. As far as the little board, I don't save those. I'm confident of not overcharging due to my charging rig.

Mark, Bummer. I don't know why these companies can't get spinmaster to put better labeling on the planes. The new jet is a blast though.

Pigboat on the prefious page there is a link to the sorta 3 channel ace. Cost is $30 plus shipping.

Needed something to do to keep my mind off of things so I
painted the PowerHawk. The stripes were done with Apple Barrel
acrylic Cardinal Crimson which is close match to the original
red.
Still can't seem to cut this one up. I might wait for the AcroBat
to try out the triplane. The test glider flys well enough.

Tim, what's with the fires?!
Hope they're not near you.

Neuro, you know as much about the fires as I do probably. They sent our fire heli and a bunch of CalFire guys and sent them south. The fires are between 600-700 miles south of where I am. I live near the Headwaters forest if that helps. Or how about this, I'm 100-150 miles south of oregon.

Guys, I'm having problems giving up my aces. How about you tell me what you want. I have airframes, planes that are in pieces, whatever. I'm leaning towards giving flyable planes to the local scouts.

Is the original charger for the aero ace's built into the transmitter or receiver? My aero aces won't charge through the tx anymore and if I can charge with my lipo charger it would be great.

What is the mA's of the original lipo?

See ya,

Tim, glad to hear you're not part of what's been on the news.
Why not keep the AA's and start an indoor flying club? That
way you could have beginners fly your planes. If not, the scouts
sound like a good idea. When I was with the scouts with my
son I did a model rocket class. The kids loved it. The thing is
you need someone who knows about the planes to teach the kids.

Rod, I believe the charger is in the TX.
I've heard the lipos are 100, but I also heard them to be 135.
I'm still using the wall charger for power to the AA TX and it
works great.

I'm still reading here, but I'm going towards larger planes... I imagined that starting from Silverlits would gave me some push... Yesterday I finally flight with my first "large" (not much) depron, with rudder&elevator for first time... today I repaired ;-)

Ok thanks, I think I will get inside one of the tx's and remove the charge lead and see if it will work with my lipo charger.

Will try it and see what happens. Can't figure out what is wrong, it just won't charge. The light on the tx won't come on. I think the plug on the charge lead is ok. But will check it out when I get it out of the tx.

See ya,
Rod

Rod,

There is a diode inside the plane that will keep you from using a Lipo charger through the charge port. You have to attach a connector to the battery directly. Tim (Ferndale Air Force) posted some pics of how to do that somewhere in here. I have had success with modifying one of my chargers but before you try anything else, try this. Remove the battery back. Connect the plane to charge. partially remove and then reinsert one of the batteries. It may not charge completely but this will tell you if the charge circuit is still functional.

One other thing that comes to mind is a bad lipo. The only way to tell is to split the plane open. If it is swollen, you know the drill. Replacements are available. Let us know what you find.

Ron, I'm not leaving but I find myself flying the micro-cessna the most right now. So I'm thinking of reducing my fleet. I could box up the spares and wait a amonth or so then decide. I'll have to check but I believe I have several versions of the mono-mod around, usually needing a battery. Which I still have extras of.

Rod, your charger will not see the lipo. I hardwire a microdeans plug to the battery to charge with my triton jr. The wall charger with the tx is an option. I assume you have new batteries in your tx, do you have a second tx? If so try it, I wore out some charge plugs before.

Ok, thanks guys. Think I will try the direct connect idea with some left over plugs I have around. The parts are out of the original AA planes and on little 3mm depron planes I build and fly. Right now have one that looks like the classic paper airplane, flys good but hard to turn, wants to go straight. Still working on it. And another is a round disc and colored with sharpie to look like a bug. Flys in a harrier like way and a fun little plane.

Thanks for all the tips. The chargers seem to work when they want. Couldn't tell if it is a problem with the plug itself or something else. Seems like sometimes if I wiggled the plug as I inserted it into the plane it would take off and charge. But it was a guessing game if it would work.

My lipo charger is a balancing charger for up to 4 cell lipos from common sense. It works great.

See ya,
Rod

Hi Guys
You seem to know a lot about chargers and such ,maybe you can help me.I have a Air Hogs Havoc helicopter and cannot find a forum for it.

Here is the problem .This little heli is wild and uncontrollable when it is fully charged but when the battery is 1/2 empty it runs pretty good.Is there a way of just charging it up half way ?

Thanks
Charlie

Patsy, have you done the hinge axis mod? That should solve your problem. If you can't find it go to the aeroace mods page, page 1 look at the links, find aatoolbox, click on it. When it has loaded find the "other toolboxes" link, click on it. Then click on Picco Z toolbox. You'll find it. Enjoy, Tim

That's why there is a throttle control. Part throttle should solve your problem. Also, a bit of weight on the nose will make it fly in a forward direction then you steer with the right control.

I was looking at TRU.com last night and they had no aces shown on their site. This morning they seem to have the aces back on line. I was getting a little worried there for a minute, because Taget and Walmart also have no aces availible on line. There are also a couple of new offerings availible at TRU.com They have the Aero Jet. I am not sure what that is, but at $40, it sounds like it may be the 3 channel ace. No picture availible. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=2879559

They also have some Fast Lane Products like this one http://toysrus.shoplocal.com/toysrus...ToysRus-071028 that have the ace t/x, but not the airhogs brand. It also has tractor motors.

And it looks like Target has the 3-chanel jet ready to ship. I checked the link that we discussed a few days ago and found that it usually ships within 24 hours. http://www.target.com/Remote-Control...%20hogs&page=1

I wonder if spin master is going to start getting out of the aero ace and move into the 3-channel at $30 - a better product at the same price - like the ipod product release strategy. I guess the next month or so, heading into Christmas, should tell us what they are doing.

Hey Guys
Tested a Fastlane Air Raptor again today this time it flew great. Large 18 inch wingspan.TRU 39.00.Very Cool! It also handles a wind gust better and flies in lights winds. Similar to an Aero Ace.

So I noticed that the T/X is the same as the aces. Do you know anything about the battery? Are the motors and props the same as the ace or are they bigger?
