Hey Tim,have you had a chance to fly the Millenium SSX yet. Looks like a cool plane. I destroyed my gb 3d and made a new plane. It follows the same layout and size of the gb but i got a new radio. The JR xp7202 7ch synth. Heres a vid of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guAoPQbjhLQ&fmt=18

I got a 5 minute flight on Monday. I thought that the reports of it's twitchyness were overdone. Mushy controls. Then I landed it and discovered that I did not switch my rates. I only had 40% elevator. It flew really nice and has a great "singing" sound in the air.

Good looking, and flying plane.

RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
Hi, folks, I'm back. Man, this thread is long!!!!! Alright, well, down to business. Has anyone managed to stick Rolling Fury guts in an AA fuse? I'm currently wrapped up in a whole bunch of things so I don't have much spare time. I'm working on the problem, but it's slow. Also, does anyone know about motor changes in AA bipe generations? I know the paint jobs change, but my first bipe seemed much less powerful than one of my 2g ones, and the 3g that I just scored at Wal-Mart for $15 blows both out of the water-er-air. Also, I recall a channel-specific radio lag, but I don't know what channel it was. Help? Also, for anyone who still flies the bipe (newer models seem to be taking over[X(] ) I believe I have the perfect mod set: Just chop off 1cm from each wing, (mono, of course) and take a few mm's off the tail feathers. I know the bipe has already been picked apart, rebuilt, burned, frozen, cut, sliced, diced, and by now holds no secrets, but it can still be used as a tiny sport plane rather than a guinea pig, right? Or did that stop like 100 pages ago? I've been out of the loop for so long I don't know what's happening anymore[X(]

Thought I'd post a couple of pics of a flying wing that I made. The electronics were pirated from an AA AcroJet. The wing is made from 1/8" cellfoam 88. This plane is simply amazing. Flys around at only 1/4 throttle and is very, very manueverable. At 1/3 throttle it is twice as fast as a Standard Aero Ace bipe with the lower wings removed. I love flying it in ground effect just inches off the ground and taking it up high then full turn as it spirals (almost a flat spin) fast towards the ground. It is the best mod I have ever done to these little planes and gear.
Sorry if it's hard to see the pics. I'll try and get some close up shots soon.

RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
Alright, well I took the matter into my own hands with the RF guts. I just happened to have a perfect set of guts on hand and some sheets of Cell Foam 88. Man, I love that stuff! Anyway, I tried to copy RedTwilight's design with the flying-wing thing, but I failed. So I glued on a tail (also flat foam) and suddenly it flew. It's got a 12" WS, 11" long, and about 5" of fuselage and 6" of tail. if I had a camera I'd take some pics, but all I can do for now is describe it. It has some funny flight quirks, too, like flying inverted perfectly if it's stall-turned into the wind and rocking side-to-side very violently at low speeds. Oh, and i chopped the 3rd-channel actuator for lack of places to put it...

Vid of my Rolling Fury with a stick & tissue wing. The original foam
wings were removed with an x-acto blade and the new wing installed
atop the fuse with rubber bands. Plane is still quick and rolls easily
with much better control.

RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
Thanks, it does fly much better than stock (which wanted to loop constantly).
I just recently bought another one on ebay. I can't find them at Target or
TrU anymore. I think they've been discontinued.

I am new to this, so please excuse my ignorance.
I've read 200+ pages in the last three days and my eyes hurt.
A few questions
aero ace bipe and jet lipo batteries first-
1) can replacements be purchased?
2) what voltage and ampacity are they? (single cell I assume)
now for the transmitter-
1) nimh batteries instead of burning through alkalines? if so
2)what voltage? 8.4 good enough or 9.6?
3) is 9.6 too high?
I'm sure it's all been asked before, but I would appreciate any info I could get.
thanks

RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
nice vid, Neurotex, looks like she scoots around great
Welcome to RCU, DCWWCP
The sites below are good online dealers that carry replacement lipos for your AA needs.
All single cel lipos have a maximum voltage of 4.2v and a minimum of 2.9v
(if you go below 2.9v, it destroys the discharging abilities of the cell),
and the capacity of most AA plane lipos are 130mah up to around 200mah
http://www.bsdmicrorc.com/index.php?...5c17861f81326c
http://www.indoorflyer.co.uk/fullriver-cells-45-c.asp/
http://www.homefly.com/products.asp?id=30
http://www.airmidimicros.com/AMMBatt.htm
As for the TX, a lot of folks have used rechargables, sometimes with mixed results. There have been a few
mods to change the TX to accept 2 more rechargables to pump the voltage up to 9.6v but I dont have any
links on hand except the AA Toolbox (not sure if that mod is there): http://www.aatoolbox.no-ip.org/
I've never done this as I use my own hobby grade charger to charge my lipos, so I dont burn through the
standard double A's, which is something I suggest doing as using a hobby charger will prolonge the life of
your lipos - the stock TX chargers that our micro RTFs come with usually charge at a rate higher than 1C,
which the lipo can take, but eventually can wear the cell out prematuraly.

RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
thank you very much.
that is exactly what I needed.
the links are great.
the other problem I have is range. so far I've only bought one plane that had the stated 300' range. the other 3 were only about 60'. so I took them back. I popped one open just to make sure the antenna was attached. I could't see anything wrong with it. I suppose it could have been a cold solder joint, but three planes with the same problem? seems rediculous.
any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
thank you for your time.

3 out of 4 bad planes is probably worse than normal, but not unusual. I think that AH has some very poor quality control. I have had 3 out of 4 before, but usually at least half have been good for me.

the exsisting antenna wire. Also fresh batteries in the transmitter helps
range problems.
I use a wall plug in ran through the tx to charge the lipo. The batteries
only used for transmitting will last a long time. It's the charging that drains them.
micro builder mentioned a charger especially for charging lipos. That's the best bet.
I've been looking at the Triton Jr. but noticed you need a 12volt battery to use it.
Tower Hobbies has for the same price a DuraTrax Onyx 230 charger which is AC as
well as DC. So you can use a wall plug also.

You can esily adapt a computer power supply to use as a bench power supply to run your charger. Really simple mod that mostly involves cutting wires and drilling two holes in the case to mount banana sockets.

I am looking forward to the day when I can get a real lipo charger at a reasonable price - maybe $20. Until then, I am a big fan of the wall wart tx charger mod. I use that all the time now and get several months out of the AA batteries I use only for flying.

RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
wow, I love this forum, you guys are helpful and there seems to be several people with decent electronic knowldge. I do okay, I'm a union electrician who does specialty stuff, access control, cctv, FA, hvac, and integratingdetection systems. I see alot of different power supplies and chargers.
I'm definitely interested in this wall wart mod, I have access to all kinds of wall warts and even though I have a large supply of nimh AA batts and a bucket of free alkaline AA's there's no since in wasting them. nothing last forever, especially free stuff.
so after going through 4 more planes, I finally found two planes that are completely different but I love the way they fly
the first one is called a power hawk. a toysrus exclusive deal. looked a bit cheezy with the extra "dummy" prop up front but I like the way it flies and it looks pretty damn cool. 300+ft. on the range. stall crazy for sure, but I slapped a 6-32 nut on the bottom of the nose temporarily to calm that down. it begs for modification and some landing gear.
the other just says aero ace on it. it is a single wing design with the motors pointed down and outward. flies like a dream right out of the box. nice weight distribution.
my next question is what kind of glue can I use on the foam? anybody try SUMO glue?
thanks guys

Cobbler,
here's a few chargers that might work for you. Not all of them are in the 20 dollar range,
but they're good chargers never the less:
http://www.bsdmicrorc.com/index.php?...D=41&offset=16
http://microflierradio.com/BatteryChargers.html
If you guys havent been on microflierradio.com, do yourself a favor and check out the
stuff that he has. The guy is great to do business with, and his stuff is the lightest out there
other than DIY IR, and its all hand built. Awesome stuff.
D,
the AeroAce planes are all EPP foam construction, which is great cause its nearly indestrucable,
but you can also use normal CA super glue on it without it melting the foam (avoid using it on
the thin tail wings though, its a differant foam that will melt with CA).
Great video, Neurotex

RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
Thanks micro, here's the other frame up for the rf I purchased on ebay.
The fuse is much slimmer this time around and built like a lever toward
the tail. I seen another rf sold on ebay 2 days ago from the same seller
I bought mine from... seems fine, not a return or used. Paid $34 total.
There's a couple more up ther for auction but a different seller.

RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
Hi Guys
Sorry to get off the subject BUT
The weather is getting cooler and it is time to think about indoor flying.Maybe you do not have a gym available to use so if you are like me you have to fly in your own house.
Air Hogs have outdone themselves this time in bringing out a product that really suits my needs .This strange looking little plane is as much helicopter as it is airplane .
A lot more fun than a helicopter to fly.
It flys great and there is no room to small for it .It is so slow a cat walks faster than it fly's. Figure 8s are a snap.
The cost is the usual $30 in Toys r us and Target.
[img][/img]
The name of the plane is HAVOC CYCLONE and there is a Forum for it on RCGroups.com
You will love this one when it is cold ,windy and snowing outside.

RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
Neurotex, that thing looks fast sitting still! Did you build a curve into the wing, or is it just normal dihedral?
Cant quite tell from the pic, looks great though.
Charlie, the Cyclone is indeed a fun flyer, here's a vid of mine from a month ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz2E-66eeeY
If i had a nice 3 or 4 channel micro RX on hand, the gearbox/prop would work great for a micro 3D flyer -
gobs of thrust!
Well, speaking of changing the subject, I built this thing tonight. Its a Hoopskirt, originally FF meant for the
small Cox .020 gas engine. The size is the same as the plans, 10" diameter hoop, but i shortened the tail
a bit to get the CG managable (just barely though), AUW should be around 24 grams. I only gave it a
couple tosses outside tonight under the lights and it seems like it'll fly just fine, not sureabout the steering
though, too much tail leangth i think and too much rudder area, but we'll see what happens.
I'll probably also remove the vertical stab on the hoop, I think its meant to keep any rolling issues under
control, but there didnt seem to be any, so its just dead weight and probably not helping my steering.
My printers are dead so I had to import the drawings into CorelDraw and get all my measurements there,
and freehand all my cuts, and I also have run out of spray adhesive, so i had to use tape to hold the tissue
down (also didnt tissue the inside of the hoop, dont think it'll need it). I'll try to get some video tomarrow
if weather cooperates.

Cant quite tell from the pic, looks great though.
Charlie, the Cyclone is indeed a fun flyer, here's a vid of mine from a month ago:

If i had a nice 3 or 4 channel micro RX on hand, the gearbox/prop would work great for a micro 3D flyer -
gobs of thrust!
Well, speaking of changing the subject, I built this thing tonight. Its a Hoopskirt, originally FF meant for the
small Cox .020 gas engine. The size is the same as the plans, 10" diameter hoop, but i shortened the tail
a bit to get the CG managable (just barely though), AUW should be around 24 grams. I only gave it a
