Keep us posted micro, I want to see a true micro 3dish plane. A quick update on my MCX, I stripped one down to just frame, and batt and it flies fine. My next step isto make a cardstock deathstar and put around it. If anyone knows of some cardstock plans let me know.

I just flew the vapor around a pole on the porch, very fun. Then I got to attacking the goofy dog. Once he saw the plane and it was about to fly onto the porch he took off. And then everytime he went to whine at the door I'd come back at him. I found this quite amusing, the dog did not.

I just got some inverted spirals out of the Vapor, and I had the camera going. I'll go work on the Vid.

OK, here's the vid, http://www.badiusownersclub.com/vide...ideo%20one.wmv It's really short. The vapor will go for 10 minutes in a light breeze, 15-20 in a nearly windless condition. I stopped because as the disjointed credits state I clipped a bush, with the rudder, inverted. Everytime I think I have this little marvel figured out, I find something else it will do.

I under stand that it costs 4X an aeroace, but it's worth it I think.

I bound my mCX heli TX to my Vapor with no issues. Garrett you mentioned a micro 3D...

Theres a thread on it over at RCG in the micro/indoor forum. Its flown with other electronics but
the PZ Vapor Brick with the 4th channel rudder mod and a brushless motor/ESC would do the
trick too.

Nice flying, Tim. This bird sure doesnt like to be upside down much, with less angle of attack, more
sustainable inverted flying could be possible.

Nick, I was stunned that the plane held inverted. That was part of my problem. I can get about 2 seconds of standard inverted flight out of it. So when I got inverted, no big deal, then it held in a spiral. So amazing.

if that happens then I suggest we all find a new "home".

Anyway, I'm also building the pilatus P4 sailplane for AA components from the site sited above.
I built the Pilatus P4 from those plans. The plane was amazing. It is actually the only ace that I have ever lost. It would climb on the lowest throttle setting. I got it up about 20 or 30 feet and then decided to let it come back down. It had a plan of its own and kept right on climbing with no throttle. I watched it climb, staying approximately over my flying space for maybe 20 minutes, at which point it was just a tiny speck. Then it started heading out to sea. It was sad, but so amazing, it was almost worth it. I have no doubt that it stayed in the air for at least an hour, maybe several hours and finally landed with a nearly full battery.

more recently, I built the plane again, but scaled it up to I think 150% with simple photo copier scaling. The wing span is now 40 inches if I remember correctly. This one is also amazing. It flies so smoothly - no porpoising. I like to take it out in a light breeze and just float it in place.

A couple of things that I learned about this airfram with the AA electronics are that:
1. You need some dihedral. On the 1:1 scale plane I pulled the wingtips up with a thread streached between. That worked wll, but the rounded shape of the wing was kind of funny looking. The 1:1.5 scale one has some dihedral molded into the center and a lilttle more molded into the wings at the spot where the wing starts to taper. This looks and flies great.
2. You need a lot of weight up front to get the cg right. I guess this makes sense, because the design is taken from a plane designed to have a pilot that weighs as much as the airframe sitting about as far forward as possible. I put the r/x and the battery as par forward as possible and still had to add a lot of weight. I should measure it, but I am sure that it is more weight than the whole rest of the gear. For my next round, I was kind of thinking of extending the nose a few inches and maybe changing the whole rear fuse to CF rod so that I can get the CG forward without adding so much weight.

Good Luck,
Cobbler

Hi Guys
Time for an update from my little aircraft factory. Two new planes, one tetsed and a proven though sensitive flyer and one just built and so far untested. The "F15" uses the guts from my first AA bipe. It was initially built to try the Jetscream fans but there was not enough power for more than a slow descent. So back to the drawing board, out came the exacto and AA guts were stripped (RIP #1) and added to the "jet". After some elevator trimming it flies well but slowly around the hanger where we do our indoor flying. It is made of 1 mm depron so is very light and susceptible to any air movement such as a heating duct.

The ME262 was inspired by Tim. In a Pmail we were talking about the Jetscream and scratch builts for it's fans. He mentioned that IF he were to try one it would be a ME. Hmmm thinks I, the mattell? AA clone/competitors included a sorta ME262... Using that for a size guide, a 3 view and a photocopier led to an evenings fun cutting out and assembling my 262. The wing chord was extended 1 cm to give a larger area. It weighs 28.6 grams including paint. The ducts are paper and may well be abandoned after a test flight. We'll see on thursday.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics

Wow, TR. Nice birds. I remember that PM now that you mention it, but otherwise it was gone. Please take credit for your bird. You built it etc. Thanks for remembering me though. It means a lot.

Hey guys, I got a new bird. It is not a micro, but I thought I would share it anyway. The plane is on sale at hobby people, but I won mine in an airplane lotto. It's a VQ Models VTO. The kit is outstanding and the build is going much quicker than most foamies.

Relax man, this is a long, old thread, staying 100% on topic is nearly impossible, especially
since the AA has dropped in popularity over the past year or two. Off topic planes around
here is quite the norm, as you yourself showed in your first quote above. Sometimes these
old threads get a life of their own and become more than what they started, and in a low-
traffic forum like this, it doesnt really matter.

Have a look at:

Wow, that's a great flying plane. Silverlit, are you paying attention! Build it and they will come. But seriously, I have a few Power Hawks still in the box. Maybe I'll do something like this with the electronics.

The ME-262 JetScream Mk II flew tonight. I removed the long paper ducts and added a pair of "pinching ducts" as on the Jet Mite. With a little elevator tweaking it flew well. Unfortunately our indoor site is a bit too small for this plane. I did manage one complete circuit, coming within inches of the walls... but then shut it down. Once it warms up a bit (-23 C here tonight) I will try it outside. I will post pics of the mods soon.

Also have a C-119 to show you guys. Flys slow and scale like.

I don't know if you guys follow RC Groups but I picked up a Thunderbird glider tonight at Hobby Lobby. Upon searching, I found [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6062313&postcount=1196]THIS[/link] . A few posts later, he shows the [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6121492&postcount=1213]bottom of it[/link] .

I kept reading and found [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=476593&page=82]more of them[/link]

Very cool Chris.

Now that the VTO is done I am having the need to build jones. My major problem is that I am out of ace gear, and out of rx's for my regular gear. Maybe I'll just fix the Beaver or the micro-cessna.

Did you guys see that kyosho has a Christen Eagle II? I might need one.
