RE: Any micro 3d planes out there?
the bottom of the servo case on those blue birds always comes loose, and since the POT just sits in the bottom of the case, when it loosens up the servo goes nuts. i've had more than a few crashes due to this happening, so i always glued and taped the bottom case nice and tight. i had 4 blue birds and they all ended up doing the same thing, its a bad design flaw. the blue arrows seem to hold up a bit better.
the kit is looking good though, might just have to get one of those. thanks for the pics.

RE: Any micro 3d planes out there?
Well almost done now. Got the struts on, all servo and linkages hooked up for the last time, motor on, and finally got the tail surfaces hinged using the over/under method. They work nice! I never thought it would be that easy either. The servo's are still chattery but I am trying a different rx next to see if that changes anything. I have yet to build the LG or put the cowl and canopy on. I am getting ready to solder esc to motor right now. May have it maiden ready tonight.

Well the LG is on and canopy is too. I am having a hell of a time balancing it though. I moved the battery to the firewall and rx as far forward as it will go (which is ahead of the cg) and esc as far forward as well. I believe when he marked the positions for the wing and stabs he was off a bit. I know for sure the stab marking was fudged due to a severly cocked stab. I had to cut and recut to get it to fit properly. I believe the wing should be back further than marked. I only used the stuff he recommended for it and it still will not balance. I made different puchrods from thinner cf and .030 piano wire and ca. It took only 1.6g off. It did not help much though. I cut the hinges to as small as possible and still only saved .1g...peanuts! I need to figured out something fast. Tomorrow we fly in the BIG dome! Here is a link to it. 5.1 arces under one roof that is 14 stories high...yeehaa!

Maiden was awesome! It flew like a dream. Floated so stable I am not sure how anyone but myself could crash one....I did. I got a 5 minute flight in before the only thing I forgot came off...lol. I forgot the put a drop of ca on the push rod at the control horn.....and lost elevator at about 10 feet. It went striaght in and only cracked a small amount in front under the motor...2 second fix. I did not get a video of it but will for sure next time.

RE: Any micro 3d planes out there?
Thanks Nick! The AUW is 6.8ozs right now. I used a berg 4ch rx, CC 9a esc (which will be swapped with a 6a CC), a dualsky 2812CA-33 motor, 4 Blue bird digital servo's, a dualsky 300mah 3s lipo. When I build my next one I will skip the 2nd aileron servo and go with just one. Also use less glue everywhere (my first build), use smaller CF for pushrods and LG, use something lighter for the canopy. The dome experience was a blast and it sounds like we will get to fly there more often,,,yippee!

RE: Any micro 3d planes out there?
I have the spektrum ar 6300's and micro digital servos and they make noise to. just not enough holding torque to keep them centered.
the ar6300 4 blue bird 2.5's 3s1p evo lite 350 park 180 and eflight 10 amp with direct solder is only a portly 2.5 ounces make an 1 ounce plane and have fun. maybe i need to make one.
I do have one of those hobby lobby yaks in the 24" span or what ever it is. it flew great but never had the hovering ability when i had it since i couldnt find any 15-20 small lipos then.

RE: Any micro 3d planes out there?
Well I crashed it yesterday and broke the firewall out of it. I was hovering about 6 feet off the turf and one of the air exchangers kicked on and blew me straight in. We flew at the superior dome again for the 2nd time. It was a hit. We invited another club to join us and had around 20 pilots register. Never a dull moment. This plane floats! It is so stable it's sick. I got about 15 minutes out of it before crashing.

You guys are asking about a palm-z 3d it is the silverlit stingray and is coming out next month,(also known as the airhogs cyclone),loops hovering( as shown in the video) ,and spot landing it comes with an IR booster that gives it 50+feet range plus outside flight.

i think this may be the next plane i buy. i've been wanting small and nimble for the front yard and havent found much, this may work just fine.
sonicjet,
thanks for that link, pretty neat little flyer, super simple design too...a bit of foam, reflex, dihedral and the right CG and thrust line and they
get us for at least 30 bucks. they're lucky i'm a sucker (and have gotten too lazy to do much building...). that little IR booster is a nice touch.
with the way that thing torque rolls when its hovering, it makes me wonder if ailerons would work better. guess i'll have to wait a month to find out!

RE: Any micro 3d planes out there?
Just wanted to share a micro FOAMY 3d shock flyer with you boys that i been flying. We are all about 3d here right?!?!
I originally bought the micro yak from hobby lobby unfortunately they have discontinued it but i am in the process of trying to track down plans for it.
here are a couple of my own versions in my micro series... They are all 21-26 inch wing span built from 3mm depron, total flying weight is 120-130 grams with battery.(4.4 oz for you american/englsih folk)
Servos are 1x waypoint W060 -6 gram for ailerons and 2x WO38CL 3.8 gram waypoints for elevator and rudder. Thats it!! Batteries are thunderpower 7.4v 2s 480mah.

RE: Any micro 3d planes out there?
Sorry here are the pictures! (see above post)
Motor is eflite park 250 with a jeti lite 8amp esc running a 7x4sf prop. Lots of vertical power! Heres a clip of my second home built yak in action.
I used the same combo for each foamy. They all retired with distinguished services ofcourse!!!

I've built them all from scratch myself except for the hobby lobby micro yak pictured on the far right.

Nice flying! Is that one you built from EPP? Do you have a full size plan I could use to make one from? I have a 250 Eflite and some 4.3g servos and 9g servos around. Maybe I have enough good stuff to build now. Thanks Ron

RE: Any micro 3d planes out there?
Hey Ron,
Thanks for the compliment. These were all made from 3mm depron foam. I bought it from a hobby store bout 2 hours from where i live. but it is damn hard to track down.
Im just in the process of making up some plans now, all my previos ones were scratch built and drawn up from old modified plans scaled down modified with pencil plans i printed out from my pc.
I'm just finishing building a yak 54 with a 26.6 inch wing span for the eflite motor now which i will have printable plans for shortly if you can wait a few days. send me an email to [email protected] and i'll be sure to email you a copy if you like.
Only thing i would suggest is to keep it as light as possible. Any gram you can shave off.. SHAVE IT OFF! weight not needed is performance lost in my books!
