RE: Sukhoi Su-26M BNF by ParkZone
I'll have to agree on it being just fine outdoors. I have flown mine in 6-8 mph winds almost every time I have flown it, and it flies great. I will admit, before the prop mod, it sucked in any wind at all, but now is great. The harriers into the wind are great, it can just stay in one spot.
I still haven't figured out how to land it smooth though. I'm getting close I think.......what I have been doing is cutting the throttle completely and gliding it down. Just as it gets to the ground, I add just enough throttle to get the prop spinning, and it levels out good but still bounces down a bit. I think I just need to practice more.

For those looking for the plastic 1.5 mm prop saver, I got one here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/PROP-ADAPTER-for...4.c0.m14.l1262
Note that it does not come with the o-rings / rubber bands. I had an old surgical tube from a sling shot and made some bands by cutting rings out with a mat knife. Put the prop on the adapter, then screw the adapter on and add a drop of CA where the adapter meets the shaft. So far so good!
Hope this helps

It flies just fine in a breeze. We don't often get 20 mph winds in Georgia but we do get 5 - 10 mph breezes and it's great fun to fly then.

According to the math I have seen others post the plane is capable of 24mph with the 5043 prop.....and I was coming up wind at a walking pace at WOT....so Im pretty confident it was at least 15-20mph.

I don't know if anyone has measured wind speeds but I can't believe the bird could fly in 5-20mph winds. Ron

Get whichever one you like most. Not sure which one is smaller and I'm too lazy to go to Horizon's website and look up the specs (as are you, apparently LOL) I've already ordered the P51 so will have the best of both worlds.

Went to my LHS to pick up one of these GWS props. They only had the 4530 so I gave it a shot. Only a couple short flights, but definitly feels faster and I can loop it now which I couldn't really do before.
Also, not sure if someone mentioned this before (these threads get too long); but for a prop "adapter" I took an old Sukhoi prop, cut off the props around the center, bore out the GWS prop a tad and used some plyers to press the middle of the old prop into the GWS. Added a spot of CA just to be sure it wouldn't slip. Worked very slick.

I thought it was pretty cool too (excluding the end!), but apparently a lot of people feel that stunts like this will somehow cause people to lose the ability to fly due to the AMA...or something...I dont really understand. The fans loved it, I liked that they booed the guy who crushed the Sukhoi!

I thought it was funny, how at first he said it was a PAPER airplane
You have to admit, the guy had balls for bringing it in in the first place and I will guarantee you that he already planned on losing the plane. He probably would have been fined for disrupting the game.
We, the RC people are starting to feel like the early porn stars. Having to hide from the law in back allies and rural run down towns to do our thing[>:]

But the difference is that the FAA has by executive order decided to regulate RC flight. They could in a worst case scenario ground us all. Or what looks more likely is to say that we all have to be on an ama park pilot license minimum. They are making up the rules in secret right now. We are already subject to notams.

The one good thing with this incident in that regard is that you could tell by the ending that this plane was not much of a threat. If they had flown in a larger brushless or glow powered plane with some weight to it we would be hearing an earful. I was flying my Sukhoi in a large field last weekend doing a knife edge about 5' off the deck and a good gust of wind pushed the plane on a flight path with my chest and clobbered me. I fell down laughing at how I could do this in a 25 acre field, but no harm done other than feeling stupid. It was still a stupid stunt, but at least they used a plane that would not do more than bounce off someone. Clearly in a fight between a Sukhoi and a baseball player, the baseball player wins. Still a really stupid stunt and not a good calling card for us, particularly when the FAA is looking to crack down on what we can and can't do. It will be especially interesting to see what they do with regards to FPV regulations...

I'm curious as to how the FAA or AMA intends on enforcing any of their rules upon us. I'm not usually one to break the rules, but if the rule is unjust, the I dont have a problem with breaking it (telling me I cant fly in my yard or a park because they think someone flying a plane during a game is dangerous, or something, seems slightly unjust). How could they possibly enforce any rules? Unless men in black coats come to my house directly, I'll be flying. I really dont think the AMA or FAA could kill this hobby, there is no real threat from RC planes, at least no more threat than any other "dangerous" things that we humans do. I'm truely surprised by peoples reactions to this.

RE: Sukhoi Su-26M BNF by ParkZone
So I called horizon hobby about mymotor a few weeks back, they said since it was only a week old they would have me ship my plane back and fix it or send me a new one, well I took the motor apart and I tolsd them that so they agreed to send me a motor free of charge anyway. Well my package just arrived and I got my zippy flight max 138mah batteries in yesterday. I got so excited when I saw the package because I have 4 batteries now and havnt flown in weeks it feels like. Well I got this rather large box for having just a small motor in it, I opened the box....NO MOTOR!
They sent me a prop shart.... I called them back and the lady found a motor in california she is having sent to me via prioritymail. And i get to keep the prop shaft so if mine ever breaks im good. And I did need a new plastic nut for the end of it. Mine seems to have melted a bit from when I was using a different prop that made everything get really hot.
Ive deicded for now to just to fork over the cash and rebuild the airframe on my plane from stock parts.
Anyway, if the FAA says I cant fly my plane anymore, I will fly it anyway, let them catch me....
And yes I will agree with everyone else. I have flown this plane in some pretty strong wind, and I say pretty strong meaning for this plane, it is fun to fly in the wind but gets very trickey controlling it. The wind I flew in like to flip my plane over. But if you are good at flying it will handle wind nicely, its fun to fly against the wind and watch the plane just sit there.

More than likely it will be enforced by the police if it is a law that is made. And the police will only know if there is some jerk that reports you. Like one of those stupid moms that just like to get people in trouble. I usually don't fly in a field with people that aren't doing the same thing anyway, just because they get in my way.

Hey guys, here's the AMA stuff on the proposed new rules. http://www.modelaircraft.org/news/ama-faa.aspx I was recently elected President of the Badius Owners Club and so this has been in the forefront of my mind. The fact is that everything is considered a drone. from an aeroace or a vapor to a giant scale bird. No distinctions for size etc. I think the thing to watch is whether it causes an increase to insurance and that cities might use this as a reason to ban flying,
On SU-26 news I ordered the wrong linkage. So I am unsure of what avenue I shall be taking with that.

If cities ban flying, it WILL KILL this hobby and shut down a multi million dollar industry. It will also shut down alot of hobby shops that do mostly airplane stuff, unless they have time to adapt and conform. But most of their plane customers will just quit so the hobby shop will have to also.
I do not have the time or desire to drive more than 30 minutes to fly.
Now that I think about it, I think it will inspire more indoor flying, and yes backyard flying. After all, who's going to be a big enough of an ass to say something about a small airplane that only flies in your backyard?

Thanks for the link, Tim. I gotta say though, thats some bad law - no distinction for size? I can see the worry cities/insurance would have if people are flying a 10+ pound slimer in a local park, but sheesh! It all seems a bit over reaching and over reacting. Fortunately, foolish RC stunts have been pulled for ages and we're all still here flying, so I'm personally not to worried about any ramifications (however I live out in the country where I wouldnt have to worry about it in the first place - you're all more than welcome to come and fly out here with me if you lose your field!!).
Wheelnut, you have a good point about the backyard flying - how could any organization possibly enforce not flying on your own property?
