Default Plettenberg 30-9 evo ii ?

Quick question here, and it's kinda off topic with regards to pattern flying. However, i thought i'd inquire about this motor here since most people using this motor are flying pattern. I am thinking of purchasing this motor for a 15lbs. 29% extra 300 for 3d flying. I am looking at using a mejzlik 22x12WE on 10s and aiming for 3500+ watts. My questions are: #1 is this too much prop? Do I need to prop down to a 22x12E? I want to run atleast a 22x12 prop. Anyone have any idea how many amps this motor will pull on a mejzlike 22x12e? Also, can this motor handle the gyroscopic loads from such a large prop in 3d flight? I like this motor because it has no gearbox, very light and very powerful, and i've read about quality plettenberg is known for. Thanks for any help.

It is not a good choise. These motors are built to use a folding prop. You can mount the prop at the end of the can but is not preferable and with your use uf the motor in mind you beter opt for a different design.

You can absolutely run any prop on the Pletty motors that you wish, APC, Mez, etc. for any type of flying, 3D, pattern etc. I have used a 30-10 Evo with a 22x12 APC on a Genesis 3D without any issues, blenders, parachutes, walls etc.

Regarding the motor itself, the 30-09 is a hotter motor, with a higher kV. I think you would be better off with the 30-10 Evo as the amp draw on the 22x12 will be more reasonable. With a good set of batteries you will be in the 3000-3500W range on that prop for 10s packs. You can run the 30-09 but you will be well over 100A on that prop.

Your next option would be to run a Terminator 30-8 motor on 10s with a 24x12 pro. You will have buckets of performance with that motor and room to grow into something bigger. I have one on a 30% PAU Sukhoi at 18.5lbs with 12s (5800W) and it is a rocket!

Thanks for responses. Can773, that is great to hear you've had success with this motor. Do you know far above 100 amps i'd be with the 30-9 on 22x12e. I'm going with mejzlik and those tend to draw a little less amps than apc. I'm also considering the new advance 30-10 too. The evo might be a little easier to mount though. I've used bigger heavier motors in this plane before on 12s lipo and the plane weighed 17.5 lbs and was very floaty even at that weight. I'm trying to get it down to 15lbs or less and run it on 10s so it flys like a big foamie. This is why i'm interested in the plettenberg, great power to weight ratio with good effeciency and hopefully reliable.

Search around here somewhere I think I posted some graphs that I can't find right now. I saw 114 amps @ 6600rpm with a Falcon 21x14 cf! Similiar numbers with APC and slightly lower with the 20.5x14. Not sure how that we compare to the 22x12e you mention but this motor will suck some amps. I have about one hundred flights on mine and it has been flawless.
