Haha! It's then probably stupid of me to admit that I'm not their biggest fans, but I've had that avatar for blimmin' ages now and I can't for the life of me remember why I had it in the first place

Yep.. He's pretty happy with it too. Needs a couple minor tweaks, and it should be good. It's on my short list for 2012 for sure.

My personal favorite of the shots AJ has posted on Facebook:

Shahid, when I asked AJ about adjustable wing incidence on FB he indicated it will come from the factory with fixed incidence but he's going to spec out mounting holes, etc. to make adjustable with something like Gator wing adjusters, so I think it's the right combo of flexible but goes together as the designer intended. I *hate* the adjusters on the Vanquish, you get it right but then tighten the screws that hold the plates and the incidence changes by 0.1 degree, so you try again, and again. It's certainly possible to get the incidence you want, but it takes a lot of fiddling and its no where near as precise as is possible with the Gator adjusters.

Hi Peter,
May I add my 2 cents here. As you know, I too am a beginner in Pattern, this year was my first year and as a beginner I think it's more important to get out to the field and burn electrons rather than worring about 0.1 degrees of incidence. Arch schooled me about having the best flying plane you can have and he is right, however, with that being said I believe there is a fine line between that and being able to fly a straight pass, still working on that, haha.
I rest assured that if I get a 2 meter Osiris certified ready by Andrew that I don't have to worry about certain things. To tell the truth. I don't own an incidence meter. Shouldn't an ARF come pretty darn close ?. My concern is that the motor set up is designed for the high dollar motors Andrew and those top guys use. In order to attract new people into the fold, hopefully the $275 motors will bolt in to keep the initial investment as low as possible. When I bought my first pattern plane, it was offered as a combo deal which eliminated any error that I could/would have made buying the wrong motor or controller. Hopefully, we'll have that option.
Not sure what my point was, but I am anxiously waiting it's release.

Happy flying,
Randy

I completely agree with you Randy. I actually love that AJ is making it fixed incidence based on his test flight experience out of the box but allowing for more experienced guys to adjust if they want to based on their preferred flying style. The vanquish's forced adjustable incidence with poor adjusters is the worst of all worlds. I agree that .1 degree isn't going to make much difference, but what if left and right are off from each other? You are going to wind up with an airplane that you are constantly fighting, rather than letting it just go and fly straight.

That said, I'm glad I got the Vanquish and I'll be using it to practice until I can get a 2M Osiris pre-ordered, delivered, built and maidened!

I had the pleasure yesterday of watching Andrew fly both his new 2M Osiris and the Nuance. Back and forth between the two, comparing-contrasting. That dang Osiris is flat AMAZING. Let me first say I am a bit prejudiced to less expensive airplanes, as I feel the dollar/value has gotten a bit out of hand in pattern. On the other hand, Im a sucker for the latest, coolest, trickiest thing I can buy and will often buy into the idea that says "if it costs more, it HAS to be better". My personal problem...

The Osiris does everything well, looks really good in the air and most noticeable,, it snaps and spins so beautifully you would swear it was the "definition" of the two manuveurs. Obviously, alot of that is in the eye of the beholder..

For me, and only for me,, I dont want to play down anyone else's airplanes because I really do love the variety of stuff out there,, but for me, I would buy the Osiris over the other planes I saw fly yesterday and over the last few weeks. Again, I'm not bashing the other planes I have watched Andrew fly but the 2M Osiris really did look and fly That Good.

Great Job, Andrew
Keep up the good work and get a cowboy hat. Youre in Utah now.

Very nice to hear that it would be an affordable and capable frame, but i mean you can trow Andrew a brick with wings and stabs and engine and he would make it look good ;-),looking forward on the progress of the Osiris!!.

Does someone know what would be the target price??.

Thanks.

This past weekend, IK watched Jason Shulman fly n Osiris 2M prototype at the Tangerine contest.  It was an amazing airplane to watch.  Noticeably slower than the others at the contest and flew at a very constant speed through every manuever.  He said Andrew is making some changes to eliminate yaw-roll coupling, so no mixing will be required.  Andrew has set the bar high on this one and is striving to deliver an FAI capable ARF that the average sport flyer can afford.  Between the Vanquish and the Osiris, when it hits the market, the high dollar composite airframes are in for some serious competition.

If you go to Youtube.com, an enter Jason Shulman p-13, there is a 8 minute video of Jason flying the Osiris 2 meter, with a Fury motor.

Niiiice! Interesting differences from the 62" Osiris no counterbalance on the Rudder, but there is a concave rudder airfoil (similar to the Spark Evo) and presumably to create drag on the downlines. We lose the cute "moustache" look of the cooling vents under the spinner. The overall outline "looks" different to me, but I can't put my finger on why, could be an increased length and deeper fuselage just changes the proportions of the angle from the canopy back or something. I still love it and will preorder the instant they're available even though the Vanquish has exceeded my expectations.

Ya, it does have a different feel from the 62. I think it is more of a scheme/size thing for the different feel. When talking with Ben at 3DHS the TE of the rudder is widened to create better airflow during the deflection to give the rudder a more linear throw.

Especially on Jason's video, that dark bottom sure makes the wing look like it's a belly-mounted low wing instead of a mid wing design. As it is, I'm surprised by how far below the thrust line the wing is. But, looking at a buddy's 62" Osiris here at work, I guess it's not all that different...
