Here are a few pics from out at the field. Guillermo and his father were nice enough to invite me out a while back to check out their 2M Vanquishes. I ordered mine the next day

The Yellow and Black Composite ship belongs to Glenn (rcprecision). Iam not sure what model it is, but it looks sweet!!!

.....and that beautiful 71" Slick belongs to me.

That looks like a ZN Integral.

yeah they (comp arf, and i assume zn) stopped making them last year - too bad, they were a pretty good value, and i think still a decent looking plane. i found one nib over the winter and just started the build, i'm pretty psyched.

I am using the Hi-Max outrunner with the ICE 85 HV. My temps seem to higher than I anticipated. Did anyone add any deflectors to help cool the controller?

picked up a vanquish a while back with the intent to do a gas conversion.

couple of friends are trying to talk me out of that, and into using an electric motor which i can just bolt on and fly.

other than the himax and the torque, which motors will bolt in with any mods?

and which ones have the best mix of power and current draw?

thanks

This is my first 2m plane and I have to say this is a nice kit compared to my other planes (mostly 3dhs)which are also great, but I don`t like the stab and wing adjusters one bit. Just like some guys the stab adjuster was not tapped correctly..They use a pretty good piece of aluminum for that and it`s not that easy to straighten out..I guess I need a tap set for sure. I did get it eventually.
The wing adjusters just seem like they are made wrong too me.. If you want to move some thing north- south wouldn`t you slot the plate that way? they are slotted at the 3 & 9 and get in bind when the wing moves.. I know the gators are an option there..Just a thought , not a rant..

Dana, how are guys measuring their incidence? I have mine at precisely 0.3 degrees+ (and stab at 0.2 degrees+ BTW) and the model works well there.

I use a height gauge and a reference surface to measure with the precision I want, down to 5 mils (0.005"). The airframe is not touched and nothing hangs from it. Anytime anything is added to the airframe (incidence meters?) one is in danger of adding angle simply due to the weight of the device hanging off the airframe.

Dunno Matt, most are likely following the instructions from EF that came with the ARF, or getting help from local pattern pilots. What I can remember from when I set mine up (since sold) was to immobilize and level the airframe; set the stabs at 0; and follow with the wings; more or less per the directions. Many repeated readings of both the level and the H9 incidence meter at every step of the process gave me confidence that my measurements were reasonably accurate for the purpose at hand. This took place over several days that I had the airframe set-up in the garage so I could check and re-check the work. You flew it before you bought your Vanquish, you tell me, how do you recall it came out? Cheers!

The Himax F3A motor bolts right on to the existing holes in the firewall and works very well.

On another note, it has been mentioned before but the airplane flys best with a wing incidence between .6-.8 pos and the stab at 0.

I have the Himax motor and it does bolt right up and has plenty of power. My stabs are 0 and wings at .6, flies good. I had Archie(original thread author) fly it this past weekend and he said it felt good.

'cmon over to the dark side Tony! The Himax 210 is easy and an awesome value, very well made and well matched for the Vanquish.  (Or buy the other motor if you prefer.) The best reason to do so is so that you can get out flying sooner and enjoy the pattern season with us, maybe try your hand at a contest or two: Sure beats not flying it and just thinking about your gear choices.  The pilot makes all the difference, right?  OTOH, "GOT CARDEN?!" LOL, its all good!  I plan to get down to a contest or two in VA and/or MD this season so maybe I will see you there with your Vanquish.

I don't know anybody that has had both motors so it would be hard to compare the Torque to the Himax other than peoples opinions.

also looking at the hacker A60-7S V2.

choices choices!!

need to make a deision and get something ordered.
definitely want something as a drop in replacement. sold my dle-35ra tonight that i had for the plane, so going electric now!!

silver bullet f3a $229
himax 6330-210 $279
hacker a60-7s v2 $219

will probably be starting off with the advanced sequence, the intermediate looks very boring (not many elements on the lines) but i want this to have enough power for masters.
thinking about the farm contest on may 24 if i can get it put together in time.

i have a CC ice2 80hv coming for it.

Tony, I am going to make this very easy for you. I have a low time (about a dozen flights) A60-7S V2 that I will pull out of another model that I don't often fly,if you really want it. I cannot speak to it as a "drop in replacement" so that will be for you to determine. I was not looking to sell it, but if you would rather chance the A60 over the Himax, just PM me and we can figure it out.

A few Masters level guys up here had flown my Vanquish with the Himax 210 through their sequence with no comments about lack of power, so Advanced should be no problem at all.

I just bought a room for the FARM so I hope to see you there (the contest not the room; and yes the intermediate sequence is very boring, I fly it all the time and will continue to do so till I get it right LOL). Time to fly guy!

Tony,

The A60-7S won't be a drop in setup. It can be done though. I have two Vanquish with this motor installed.
The mods to the firewall are easy to do and the whole process takes no longer than a hour or so.
Take a look at post 1280 and 1295 to see how I did the modification.

If you need any other pictures or information PM me and I will get the information to you.

I have seen several people use the Hi-Max and all of them are happy with the installation and power.

Good luck Tony

looks like the hacker is out.
definitely not a drop in fit. thanks steve.

so that leaves the himax or the torque motor.

can someone compare these two choices?

I had purchased the Vanquish combo deal at the time with the motor.  At the time, the motor and firewall were not a "drop-in fit."  Things may have changed with later production runs of either the ARF or the motor, but mine was from an early run and the holes just didn't line up.  No biggie, but I wasn't really impressed with quality of the motor, compared to the Axi and Hacker motors that I had been buying for my sport models and Osiris.  I chose to return the motor and was refunded promptly so the story ends there.  To be clear, I did not mount or run the motor, just returned it in new condition and moved on to the Himax which was highly recommended.  No regrets about all that, those were the right choices for me at the time.

so the torque motor is 575g and the himax is 610g, so the himax is 35g heavier.

the torque is 220kv and the himax is 210kv, so the himax will turn less rpms per volt????

sorry if thats a stupid question, but i'm new to electrics.

tony
