Hi Tony,

Say, it looks like from the underneath pic you have your rudder servo mounted down the back on a pushrod. Is that correct?
Also, are the 4 vertical fins on the horizontal stabs parallel to the centreline? If they are, would you ever consider ' flaring them away ' to induce drag?

cheers

The rudder servo is mounted in the tail and uses a pushrod. It's installed very much like BJ Craft shows but instead of gluing the servo mounts to the fuselage I glue them to a plate of 1/16" ply, then I install the entire mount in the fuse using 4 small wood screws.

The stab fences are parallel to the center line. I feel they work better that way then using them to add drag.

Hi everybody,

Just one question ;

For the servo of the rudder, is it necessary to put a servo arm from secraft, or the standard length is ok ?

I would go for any HD arm... (secraft is only an option)
I use an HD arm from HobbyKing. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=3750

I'm running 1" arms on mine. Probably not a requirement to run He arms, but I have been.

I employed this method, a carbon/foam sandwich plate (it weighs next to nothing) with the laminated ply posts glued to it, then glued on some dowel posts, this all gets epoxied in to the fuse. I then made a carbon strap that fits over the face of the servo, fixed by two hex head servo screws. This makes a nice solid mount for the servo which is a quick release method for maintenance etc.

I use this method on all my BJ models and on those that I have helped put together for others.

Happy yuletide everyone..........

Hey Tony,
Beautiful scheme.
Do you use the landing gear of the kit with the contra drive, or is it a landing gear a little bit larger ?

I have been useing JR servo tray stock # JPRA244 , they work great on the rudder servo , just put 4-40 blind nuts on them. I use them in the past on Comp-ARF 35% on wing, nver had any trouble with them. Now I put them on all BJ Crafts plane i put together.

servari, I use the stock gear. There is enough clearance with the 22" props. But I do fly off of pavement almost all the time.

She'll fly on Sunday.

Have installed stab adjusters and reinstated the wing adjusters. Have set the motor at -0.5, wing at +0.5, Canaliser at -0.25 and stabs at 0 degrees. That'll do to start with.

Cheers,
Jason.

Hi Guys,
I just ordered mine. I plan to run a hacker C50 with the mounting made by Chris from Bondaero. I also plan to run a standard pull pull setup on the rudder or do you think its better in the tail? Is the battery tray that comes with the plane adequate or is it worth upgrading?

Thanks

Hi mikey, welcome to RCU. If you go to page 6 of this thread and check out Shannah's post about rudder servo install, that's the way I have done mine.

I personally like the direct drive setup in the tail. Very effective and easy to set up. Never have to worry about cables stretching and such. The battery tray would definitely work fine. I ended up using the gator trays, as they are a little easier to install, but it was purely personal preference, not because the stock tray wouldn't work.

I setup an Episode for a friend that was built with a rudder servo on pull-pull and didn't like it. I had nothing to compare to, but everything had to be shifted so far forward to account for the rudder servo being much closer to the CG. The airplane was designed with the servo to be in the back and I'm sure flies better because of it.

Rudder servo location notwithstanding, the airplane flies amazing.

Hi Ryan,
With the rudder servo further forward for the pull / pull set up - Would everything not have had to be further back to compensate ??
