That is a shame Doug. Normally height restriction is put in place if there is an airport nearby or if the site is under the flight line, but I don't think there is one near that site. So why height restriction as distinct from a no fly zone beside or behind the site? Also how would the 400' restriction be policed?

As I heard it, there was someone flying there who wasn't even a member of the club who decided to play chicken with a full-scale aircraft, and it turned out to be a police helicopter. So basically now, anytime there is a police heli, or US Coast Guard heli in the area, if they see a model at or above their altitude, we are in danger of losing the field permanently. So the club leadership now has said 400' hard ceiling, and anyone caught breaking this altitude limit will be removed from the club.

Hi Doug, don't you hate it when stuff like that happens especially when it's not even a member. It certainly curtails any F3A flying. What a shame. Thanks for the info.

Yeah it's really frustrating. I got back into pattern SPECIFICALLY because of how convenient this field is for me. Fortunately, I'm having a ridiculous amount of fun flying F3K right now instead..

So, unfortunately.. I've decided to sell my BiSide. There's just no point in keeping it when I have no place to reasonably practice. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the airplane, but the idea of driving over 80 miles each way just to practice isn't going to work for me. I'd prefer to sell it to someone local-ish so I don't have to ship it, but I can ship if necessary.

I can sell it equipped or just airframe only. PM me if you're interested. I'm not going to get aggressive about selling it though just in case I can get into the local military/civilian club where I CAN practice regularly.

Hey snowman, sent you a pm, interested in getting one of these G10 mounts you had cut. Pm me please and we can set it up thanks Cliff

Cliff....I have built a Nuance and Prolog and am building a BiSide and have used the Snowman's motor mount on all 3 and they work perfectly....totally bulletproof.

Thanks Dave, not sure which plane I'm going to end up with, leaning towards the Nuance without the dfts wings and the mount just looks to easy to pass, could build my own but not building the plane so the mount looks to be easy. Thanks.

Have just finished and flown my BiSide, early flights are showing great promise.

Thought I would share my setup and a picture to this thread, as it has been very helpful and informative during my build.

Ailerons 4 x Futaba S9650 / Elevator Futaba S9155 / Rudder Futaba S9156.

Motor AXI-F3A / Speed Controller Jeti-Spin / Propeller APC 20x13.

Peter,
How does the plane do on grass with such small wheels? I would have thought larger (lightweight) wheels would have been used without the wheel pants on grass?

Hi Cliff..........
The Nuance with the straight wing is the best of the bunch.....it fly's great.
I recommend that you install the stab fences right from the beginning...the fences fix a slight directional instability under certain conditions and is well worth the slight extra effort.
Mount them at 90 degrees...not 95 degrees....they come with a mounting template to locate them accurately. Apparently there is no difference either way but I mounted them straight ahead for less drag.
You can get the stab fence kit from F3A/U along with the airplane. I installed them with R/C 56 canopy glue (fletching glue) and they are attached well and can be removed without damaging the covering later.

Snowman's motor mount for the Pletty Advance tales all the hassle out of installing the motor.
I used a couple of pieces of plain circuit board material to make small tabs for the rear motor mount.....put a 1/4" 4-40 bolt into the rear mount tabs and it will last a very long time.
Be sure to use Hysol 9462 epoxy available at McMaster-Carr.....I don't use the usual hobby shop epoxy anymore due to it popping off the fuse sides regardless of how I prepare the surface.
This stuff is totally bulletproof and works great.
I used the F3A/U rear metal motor mount.

Hi Itc,

Yes our field is just starting to dry out after the winter period, and is ready for its first cut.

The size of the wheels did not cause any problems, but the wheel pants might have so did not risk it and removed them.

Once the grass has been cut and the field rolled, they should hopefully go back on.

Best regards,

Peter

Hello.
firts of all thanks for your help, every post improve our planes.
I Have a question, my Biside have something like 50 flights, well my problem is that the motor and the batts come hot.
I put deprom and the motor temp is a little better, but in my last 5 P patters use around 4000 mAh in batts.
I think that can be my set up, so please check it.
motors: new model NEU F3A
ECS: casttle Phoenix 80HV
batts: zippy compact 5000 mAh 25C
Propeller: APC 20.5 x 14
My ECS come very cool, and I use Falcón Spinner.
thanks a lot.

Angel in my opinion its the prop pitch. I've had much better results with the 21x13. Be it PT or Mejzlick or the best is a Falcon 21.5x13. It lowered my per flight comsumption 400 mils. Mike

Angel,

Going to one of the lighter carbon props also helps as it takes some of the load away. I love the Falcon 21x13.5 on mine.

Dave the 21x13.5 or the 21.5x13 Falcon. Or the 21x13 Mejzlik or PT all work equally well on the Pletty as they do most motors.
Andrew uses the 21x13.5 on windy days and the 21.5x13 on calmer ones. Amazing performance on these sizes.
