4S Practice Plane
After many years of service I dumped my Vanquish mk1. Since the Osiris isn't available I am looking for replacements. Right now the top contenders are the Vanquish mk2, Monolog 400, and maybe the Value Hobby Oasis.
Any feedback?
They must be reasonably priced and capable of the F sequence.

RE: 4S Practice Plane
Set the Vanquish II up the way that Extreme flight suggest and you have one of the best flying planes found. In a roundabout way I discovered that you really don't screw around with what works. I overpowered mine and decided to use larger batteries then the weight was so high that air speed had to be increased to stay in level flight. After fighting this configuration I reverted the the battery compartment to accept smaller batteries, but because of the heaver motor the batteries had to slid under the wing spar. Once this was done and all trimmed she fly's very well and much slower. Very axial rolls. Coupling is very close.

Hey Anthony I'm building a ML 400 right now. I'm taking pictures of the build to post.
I'm blown away with the quality of it. I can't wait to get er done.

We only have 3 left and when they are gone well there pretty much going to be gone. It won't last long.
Thanks, Mike Mueller

RE: 4S Practice Plane
Hi Mike,
You're a busy guy lately. Right now I am one the fence between the Vanquish and the ML 400. I saw an ML 400 video of P-11 and it looked very solid but I haven't really heard from anyone who has flown one. I found the manual online and it does look good. Looking forward to your flight report. Are you going to use four cells or three?
Lazer,
Glad to hear the improvements are more than just cosmetic. I had to increase the wing and move the cg forward to get my MK1 to really fly clean. There was still some inconsistencies when flying rollers but it was pretty good. I put a lot of time into setting it up but it still would snap if you got it too slow. Are the wings the same? I just happen to have a spare set.
JSchoolcraft,
I don't really have gear for a 3 cell set up but thanks for the info.
I have to take my wife on vacation next week so I will probably decide when I get back.

The Monolog is definately a top contender but will keep my current equipment set up. Still haven't found a flight report for that plane.

If you haven't seen it yet, you should check out DW Foamies On Axis V2! It's a great pattern practice plane!

Jamie, I'm putting another On Axis together right now. What motor are you using?

TOP-MODEL SPUTNIK
-is said by many top F3A pilots to be one of the best small pattern practice planes around.

-It was designed byF3A pilot Nicolas Pietu -he has even used it for some F3A competitions in France.
I have one myself; It is a highly capable F3A plane. And being EPP, can take a lot of punishment.
Chuck it in the back of the car, have a quick fly on the way home from work, or on the local sports field ...

Hey Dr Motor that's the same as the Zoom 4D. I have had a number of them. They are a blast but not even close to a ML400 class plane or the smaller Vanquish.
These fly like nice foamy's. I've also had the Fliton series of smaller pattern planes and the Brio 10. There's a big difference. Mike

Hello Mike: They are totally different planes. The SPUTNIK is much larger than the ZOOM 4D.The SPUTNIK was designed specifically for F3Aschedules.
ZOOM:
http://www.aircraft-world.com/prod_datasheets/zoom.htm
" The Zoom-Zoom 4D was designed by David Kyjovsky, Czech Republic Indoor Aerobatic Champion...".
It is a pure 3D plane
Wing Span 820 mm
Length 855 mm
All-Up Weight 285g- 345g

SPUTNIK:
http://www.topmodel.fr/en/product-de...110m-epp-magma
The SPUTNIK, drawn by Nicolas PIETU is a mini plane of 1,10m (43") wingspan entirely designed in EPP for F3A aerobatics
Wing Span 1100 mm
Length 1200 mm
All-Up Weight 800 -900g

nicolas pietu: "The SPUTNIK is a mini plane of 1,10m (43" ) wingspan entirely designed in EPP for F3A aerobatics.
The geometry of the SPUTNIK and the airfoil of the wing, inter alia, were studied to approach to the maximum of the glide path and the piloting feelings of a 2 meters F3A plane - and this, even in a pretty strong wind! "

" ... As an aerobatic practice plane rather than 3D I think you'd be hard pushed to beat it."
" ... Found it one of the best knife edging and rolling planes I have flown.
I have well over a 100 flights on mine now. " ... By far the best plane I have ever flown as an aerobatic trainer. "
"Flies like a much bigger plane. Lovely plane to fly in Knife-edge, my favourite being big KE vertical eights.
Makes a great pattern style aerobatic trainer which is why I have mine. "
" ... I've got the Nicolas Pietu (bit like a French Steve Mallinder) Sputnik and the most awesome EPP model I've ever flown. Rock solid and amazingly precise. Uses a Hacker A30-16M on 4s so not in same class as the RCFactory stuff .... "

Tony take a look at this plane. It is a little bit bigger than the Vanquish II. Maybe my next purchase.

Drmotor
I stumbled across the Sputnik on the web a few years ago. Never found them offered in the US so i didn't try it. Wonder how it would fly on 3s since 4 s seems like such overkill.
Lazer
The Airoso looks interesting but I don't have the gear to move up to a 6s plane.
The suggestions are great but I am looking to reuse my gear from my Vanquish.

Re: Sputnik; Our planes came from TopModel in France;20 of us got together, we put in a batch trade order, got them for 60% of retail price.-Some people use motor likea Hacker A30-14 L; Torque 2814T/820 in them, with 4S LiPo. -I suppose you could email TopModel, and find if any are on your side of the pond.
I assume you have a ~140g Torque 2814T/820-like motor, from the Vanquish Mk1.
This motor has a 3020 stator,and is exactly same motor as:Hacker A30-14 L V2, Kv 800, Turnigy SK3 3542-800Kv, HYPERION Z3019-14T 800 Kv etc etc
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11426913/tm.htm
Seems like plane choices are:
Sebart 30 planes (not pure F3A)
Vanquish Mk 2
Oasis F3A
Osiris 47in -when in stock
Maybe Sputnik
Monolog 400 F3A (-I have a Monolog 110 -love it ...)
Precision Aerobatics planes (prob more 3D)
? HobbyKing Firenza F3A, 1.38m (54in) w/span http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...FcLHtAodz0cAsg
? HobbyKing Rainbow F3A, 1.38m (54in) w/span http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14494
(Are they the same plane ?)
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1239960
Also noticed this: ELEMENT 30 F3A -looks interesting (see pics)
http://www.flitonstore.com/catalog/p...f864fd8d88a926
Good luck, mate
PS: Since the Osiris plane was designed by AJ, seems impressive.
Is there a long wait for them to be in stock ..? Does any other retailer have any left ...?

RE: 4S Practice Plane
More info: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1769672
It is made by "Winners Models" -actually says that on left wing; did a Google search on this ...
However, needs a motor larger than 140gHacker A30-14 L ; Torque 2814T/820 -size motor
They suggest motor: 1000-1250W, 230-250g, 4255, 4020 outrunner(-4255 would be size on external dimension? 4020 would be stator-size?)
Their suggested motor, a Dualsky XM4255EA-7, is 250g, Kv 505,42mm diam,49mm long (i.e. ~4250 -sizeon externaldimension); has 3535 stator.
A 4020 (stator-size) motor is, for instance:Hacker A50-14 XS V2 Kv564 (289g motor) -which is exactly same motor as: Torque 4014T/570 Kv 570, HYPERION Z4020 14T 574 KV, LipoliceLP-4020 /14T-550KV,Gens ACE Mars BL4841-550KV, 14T
-Could also use: Turnigy SK 5045-500kv; 280g; 16T or Turnigy SK3 5045-450kv; 280g; 18T, (these also have 4020 stator)
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=11427948
So: Put e.g. an SK3 orGens Ace motor in,get a ZTW ~70A ESC, and should berelatively inexpensive ... Takes 4S to 6S LiPo
PS: Weight of this plane is ~1.85kg, so inbetween Sebart Angel 30 (~1.3kg) and Angel / Wind 50 (~2.4kg).
-Can be described as 40-size plane, in between 30-size and 50-size ...
Mike, F3A Unlimitedshould get some of these for USA; It is a gorgeous beautiful thing ... It is mini Krill Spark ...
I WANT ONE ...
