Default Q80 13XS VS 14XS

Hi
I have a Spark with a 13XS and Jeti Mezon think it maybe use a bit to much power , everything is in good shape (conectors solderings etc etc).
We had a competition this weekend and I discuss it with some off the other guys but it seems that no one have tried both motors on the same setup(plane esc) .
I use a light weight PT 20x13 wich I think is correct or ok, but on one flight P program I use about 3000 Mah and on a flight off 7 min it use around 4200.
I have flown the plane about 80 flights and everything was new from the beginning and it has been like this from start , a friend has almost the same setup (has the spin instead off Mezon) and experience the same.
I was thinking maybe change the 13 to a 14 and use a 21x14 ...any thoughts guys?

3000mah doesn't seem unreasonable for a P13 flight. I average about 3200 with a completely different system

The 13XS is not designed to throw a 21 X 14 and may overload it. The 14XS can throw a prop this big. 3,000 for P is peanuts. I use 3,200 to 3,600 for the new Masters.

I dont use a 21x14 on the 13xs, but a 20x13.

I understand that, but you said you were thinking of running a 21 X 14. The 13XS is designed for a 20 X 13.

Maybe Rune meant changing from 13XS to 14XS............

thats correct, I'm consider to maybe try a 14xs with a 21x14.
To morrow I will go to a friend and compare some number (amp's) on ground just to see what they maybe tell me ..he has a 14xs and I wil be able to borrow a motor from him for som test in the air if it looks intresting.
I know that just testing on ground will not give the full picture but can give some leads.
I know some here in Norway get flights up to 9 minutes on a 14 xs ( sure he's better with the throtel than me) but if I can get maybe some more.
And I think also it will be better for my batteries.

Rune,I don't know if will help to go to a 14, but it's worth a try. I run a 14XS on an Arixtra that probably weighs about what your Spark does. I run a Falcon 21 X 13.5. Like I said I use about 3,200 to 3,600 on the new US Masters that is just about as intensive as schedule P. It takes just a bit under 7 minutes.

did some test today!
The 14 XS with a APC 21x14 is pulling 75 A , the 13XS with PT 20x13 is pulling 90 A , how this will influence the amp usage in the air I dont know but I borrowed a motor to try.
.

Interesting thread. Thanks Rune for starting it.
From what we have seen the sales of the 14XS far exceed the 13XS. I'm not sure why. Thanks, Mike

Mike, I would guess because the 14 can swing a bigger prop.

Yes the 14 can swing a bigger prop.
One off the reason I chosed the 13 was that it was ment for a smaler prop so that one has had a 20x13 some off the reason was the weight off the prop If I would go with an Apc its a hugh diffrence in a 20" and a 21" , but when the new lightweight props has come this is not an issue any more one other reason was ground clearance as I fly from a gras field.
But to what i experience with this 2 diffrent motors , both is exelent build but the 14 is much more "soft" in the power it has the power as the 13 but the 13 is more like a angry Italian car .
For consuming power it was so equal that I can not jugde I has the timer on 7 minute and the telemetry alarm at 3800Mah and it was the same the timer and alarm started almost at the same time just as one the 13.
I was almost there that I had buyed a new motor , but right now I really dont see a good reason for it.
So I think I close this case!
