Hey guys just listed is a Non Contra version of the Inspire. What it involves is we take a standard Inspire and modify it for proper non contra thrust.
It involves us mounting your motor of choice which you either provide to us or obtain from us.
It takes on average up to 2 weeks to complete this procedure. Call for details depending on schedule constraints it could be a little less.
The model have been tested Non Contra with good results.
Also all planes shipping from our stock have corrected incidence that is not an issue.
Thanks, Mike Mueller

Flew the production Inspire from F3AUnlimited today and I was very happy that with only a few modifications to the throws it performed as well as the prototype now flies. I was impressed that the changes I needed to make in the Prototype were all done by BJ in the production model. I set the CG where I have it in the prototype and the knife edge was very close to no mix. As I mentioned in an earlier post the wing incidence is same as where I have it in the prototype. I may need minor fine tuning but nothing major. Uplines are very straight and rolls are axial. The plane snaps slower then the prototype and they both spin very well. I haven't weighed the plane yet but it will be lighter then the prototype.

As a follow up to my previous message. I did notice that the battery packs were further forward on the new Inspire to get the CG right behind the former over the wing tube. Today I measured where that CG is and found that it is 292 MM from the rear canopy while that same location on the prototype is 280 MM. Next time I fly the plane I will try moving the CG back to 280 MM but as I said in the previous post the plane flies fine as it is but I want to see what changes.

Dan,
I saw that you were at the Phoenix contest with the Inspire. How did it go? I saw that Andrew was at the contest as well which certainly raises the bar.

Sorry you didn't make it to the contest Herb. I think a number of potential entrants bailed due to the poor weather prediction. Turned out OK though.
Yes! such fun to fly with AJ!
I flew my Episode with bright pink wings on Sat, primarily due to the poor visibility. On Sunday I flew the Inspire for the F15 sequences. It was far from clean, but given the minimal F practice I have had, I was very pleased with how I flew the plane.

After the contest, AJ and Kirt Campbell flew the plane and appeared to like it. AJ especially amazed me by flying it through P15 with a setup and flight style he was un-used to, yet flew a better P than I ever will in my life! He only suggested that I check my aileron L vs R throws and crank in more throw for snaps.

I was planning on being there as John and Frank were going to take my plane and drive there and I was going to fly. Unfortunately John couldn't do the trip so I had to cancel out.
Glad to hear the Inspire flew well and that AJ and Kirt got to fly it. I know Andrew likes to snap quickly. In the unknowns at the Nat's he had a 1 1/2 snap in level flight and it was so fast and so precise the crowd reacted watching it.

Guys we have the Non Contra version flying now. The initial results are very positive. Matt Griffitt is doing the testing and has been in communication with BJ Park on how to get it setup.
The plane works very well with the setup.

I am currently fling a non contra inspire.
everything that you have been told is true. This plane is a really good plane, with or without the contra. Above Mike has posted pics of the plane I built. If any one want's more information on my set up feel free to PM me. As I said above this is the best quality aircraft that BJ has manufactured. Try one it's the best bang for the buck

Hi all, finally got flying again after a spell of very bad weather. I set the plane up according to inputs from BJ Park with the CG at 260mm from the rear of the canopy and the wing at the recommended setting according to his blog. It is now flying much better than last month.
Still one mystery though in that there is still some pull to canopy on left rudder KE but none on right rudder KE. A rud/El mix to pull in 2mm down El makes the plane flyable.
There was a small push to wheels on vertical climb so I adjusted motor by 1° up to cure this and it worked.
In general the plane is now flying very nice indeed. The all moving tail is super smooth, requiring small inputs to do nice corners and loops. Rolls are very axial and spins and snaps are pretty good. It lands at very slow speed even with the CG back so far. I think it will suit my flying.
If any one has any more suggestions re the KE performance feel free to help.

That's good news for the most part Paul.
When I talk on the phone to the customers I'm getting very good feedback on the plane.

Thanks Mike. I forgot to mention that there is a small twist in my canaliser which I have tried to heat out of it but not very successfully. Not sure what effect it's having. The good news is BJ is sending me a new one so I will see what happens when I get it.
I think I will enjoy this model when I have tweeked it a bit more but it's early days.

Hi Paul,
I had a slight twist in the Canlizer of a Fantasista 110 which I replaced and it did affect knife edge. Hopefully when you get the new one it will take care of the last part of your knife edge mix.

I just started flying my Inspire yesterday and am generally pleased. My A/C also pitched to the canopy on knife with the CG on the aft edge of the wing tube and the wing at 1/2 degree positive and motor at 2 degrees neg (factory spec). It seems that the additional wing incidence and small rudder-elev mix that most people have done to solve this issue may not be necessary if the down thrust was decreased to the more generally accepted 1/2 degree.

Hello all
Is the front CF tube on the h.stab (monoblock) requires spacers from both sides or only the pivot CF tube?
I got my kit 2 spacers only. I appriciate any tips on installting it especialy how it works after few 100s flights...
Thanks

I have flown with my new canaliser at last and the plane is much better. Still a small move to canopy on left KE but a small mix fixes it. The set up I am using is CG at 260mm from rear of canopy, 0.3° positive on wing and I have taken out approx 1.2° of down thrust from the motor ( so now at approx 0.8° neg). The reason for this was a push to undercarriage on verticals.

The only puzzle left is the left rudder control is far more sensitive than right, so on left knife edge almost no rudder is needed. If I give even a small amount too much the nose of the plane starts to rise. My normal flying rudder movement is only 10mm total.

I just just need to get some flying time now to see how it behaves in different weather conditions.

Amram,
The spacers are used on each side of the fuse over the fixed larger size pivot tube. Once the smaller pivot tube and the front tube are glued into the stab half.and the other end is screwed in place the stab is very solid for many flights.

Paul,
You may want to adjust your expos slightly so that you get the same feel for both directions.

A further update on my production Inspire. As the Inspire was designed to work with the Contra I figured what better place to test the new V4 from Brenner. Last week I put a prototype V4 in the Inspire with the Neu 1513 motor that Brenner has been testing. He is also testing a Kontronik motor but I wanted to see how the Neu motor worked as the Kontronik was still experimental. My first reaction is Wow!. Lighter, Better acceleration, more top end power and made with stronger gears and no clutch plates. Although I am a die hard Contra fan already I believe that this new version will bring in many more Contra users.
The 1513 motor went in with only minor modification to the firewall in that the mounting plate had to be moved to the other side of the firewall to accommodate the 1513 as the V4 uses a Colette to mount directly to the motor shaft and no rear gear box. Also the motor mounts directly to the mounting plate without the adapter.
I used the 20" props which is the same size I use with the V3. I had to move the battery about 5" forward to compensate for the lighter motor and drive.
I still have to make some changes to my throttle curve as you don't need as steep a line to start off with as acceleration is very good with this new drive. I think it is because the reversing prop engages immediately without a clutch making it more efficient. I will report more as I have only had a couple of days to play with it so far.

Not that I know of. I am heading to the Nat's later this week and will be flying a new Inspire. Unfortunately I lost my production Inspire a little over a week ago. I had a problem with one of the aileron's which I tried to counter and get the plane back on the ground but the situation got worse and worse eventually the plane started rolling so quickly that there was nothing I could do except throttle back. Part of the damage was the prototype V4 which broke out of the plane. I thought I could use it in the new Inspire but Brenner noted some damage to the housing that he does not have any replacement parts for. I am putting the V3 in the Inspire for the Nat's. It was fortuitous that Mike Mueller had just completed an Inspire that he was going to fly at the Nat's but he offered it to me instead.
I think the problem with the Inspire I lost was that I used the tower type control horns with a screw through the aileron instead of the fiberglass or carbon horns that glue into a slot in the aileron. In retrospect, I don't think that there is a sufficient hard spot in the aileron to secure the tower horns and it must have loosened up without me noticing it over many flights causing the aileron to go into full throw. Will stick to the glue in type from now on.
I'll miss the V4 as it was working very well. I had around 200 flights with it and only had to take it apart to grease one time as it retains the grease much better then the V3. It is also much simpler mechanically with no clutch plates or spring meaning better acceleration and more power. I look forward to getting one when they go into production later this year. Meantime the V3 works just fine.
As for the new Inspire master builder Dave Snow put it together and even test flew it for me before I pick it up in Chicago at the end of the week. His reports were positive and it sounds like it flies well. Once I get my settings in there it should be fine. Dave did mention that he was very impressed with the power as he never had to go past 3/4 throttle doing the Master's sequence. Now if it just stops raining in the Midwest so we can get some flying in we'll be fine. Coming from a severe drought here in California seems strange to worry about rain.

Our Inspire after about 50-60 flights.. I can say now v.good machine... Stable, balanced working very well on P15 and F15. Driven by Neu1512/2Y wth Brenner Sharp Contra Drive 10.33 Mejlik 22x22 Rear and 22x20 Front and Ralph Schweizer motor mount.
Strict building concerning weight, strength and alignment results total weight 4850 with 1200g Lipo 10S. No mixers whatsoever,,, couplings are so minor - decided to drop the mixers programming and let the youngster do the needful by fingers...

Few Important thanks:
Thank you BJ CRAFT for great model and for sponsoring this model to Ori.
Thanks to Ram Zahavi for escorting the project from day 1 till successfull test flight...
Thanks to Mike Muller of F3A unlimited for being patient with me...
Thanks to Brenner Sharp whom well support and answered all questions, helped to clear issues which poped-up due to my lack of experience with the Contra Drive system.
Thanks to Itzik Najary for so many building tips and tricks learned from his masterpiece building posts here on RCU (OSMOSE, XIGRIS, ARIXTRA and now going on Fantasista (Don't miss it!!!)

Thank you Amram for all these wonderful pictures.
Seeing your son makes my day. This is a great sport and we need new blood to pass it on someday.
I like your installation. It's very clean.
The Inspire has proven itself as a very capable flier. We have them on sale right now. The remaining supply is getting rather low.
