Default Batteries for a De Ja Vu

So I'm in the process of acquiring Rick Byrd's backup De Ja Vu.

I was talking with Scott McHarg and he suggested 5000 mah packs and to also keep the weight of the batteries under 1175g.

F3AUnlimited discontinued their 5S 5400 packs and are using the Gator RC 30C 5200 packs in their place. The Gator RC packs are 610 grams so 2 packs would be over 1175g.

So should I see what the plane weighs when I get it and pursue the Gator RC packs if I can stay under the weight limit or just get some of the Thunder Power ProLiteX 5000's (574g each)?

Mike still has the 5400's up on the website, that's what I've gone to from the 5000's.

Hi,
I have used ThunderPower Prolite+ 25C, 5 cell x 2, 5000 mAh, for 4 years (I usually use same pack for 2 years) in various F3A planes and they have worked fine. On the expensive side but sometimes ThunderPower has discount (black friday and such) and last time I bought it was 40% discount.

Maybe some brands of HV LiPo that you charge to 4.20 volt only is avaliable that meet Your weight requirement?
Hacker TopFuel Eco-X (20C, 5000 mAh) is also raher popular for F3A, at least in my country, although they are heavier then Your requirement.

To satisfy your 1175 weight limit requirement, 2 of these should work

Ah yes. Since they were on the bottom line of the webpage and right next to the 5S 6000's where I've found them before, I didn't even notice the 4S designation.

No worries. Those are the ones I was wanting but Mike at F3A Unlimited said the Gator RC packs are better. My only problem is they might be too heavy.

I currently fly a De Ja Vu in F3A class with Brenner Contra. Great model - one of the best rolling models I have had. Currently use 2700-3200 mah depending on wind flying P-17. Current flying weight around 4.75 KG with sub 1040 gram packs. Have some 980 gram packs to try which is even better. All I can say is this model fly's much better at a lower weight (What model doesn't) select your batteries wisely as it can transform the model. I had 1280 gram batteries in the beginning and the model was average at best to fly.

Ben,

I've had good results with a pair of Zippy Compact 5000 5S 25C - At less than $50 very good value and much cheaper than other LiPo's - Low IR's too. Weight is good too - advertised at 590g but mine (6 sets, 12 batteries) have been very consistent at 555-560g as have my Flying buddies also using them. They also come with 5.5mm bullets which is what I use so a nice bonus for me. Although it has to be said weight variation of LiPo's from HK, in my experience, has been an issue in the past.

Yeah I had not looked at that Gator battery. It's 30C instead of 25C which would perform a bit better but at 610 grams.....
