It's not just dollars, although you really need to have at least two working aircraft, crating and shipping money, plus hotel, food and transportation money. Teams typically beg for benefactors, most of whom are the country's other pattern fliers.
Those who aspire to be on the team pretty much have to be full-time F3A pilots, and it helps to be in the business or independently wealthy as the small group of benefactors have limitations, too.
The sequences themselves have increased in difficulty, which helps in judging, but has taken a toll on the weekend fliers who used to imagine themselves in the same category as the pros. You have to know two sequences, plus a number of other maneuvers which will make up the unknown sequence. To be flown with any confidence, the unknown really requires a trained caller. The caller adds additional complication and expense. One ponders, “Gosh. Would I really want to be on the team?”
IMHO F3A is squeezing out it’s bottom-end fliers and losing their monetary and competition support.

Way to go Team USA, and way to go Jason and Andrew. (Joseph and AC as well..)
Jason coming in third is also the highest placing ever at the Worlds for the V4 Contra Drive as well...

Is this the Final of the Finals, or Semi's, or what? Sorry to be obtuse; the official WC website coverage is pathetic!!

Two things
This must be the last time wc is placed at a desolate place ........Next time it will be placed next to a very big city with big crowds or otherwise f3a will totally loose momentum ......
this will also be the last time were cplr wins 7-8 rounds and still does not get the final win
think about it

Each sport has it's own rules, I'm sure there're many sporting teams (or individuals) out there that had won more games through the season, only to lose in the grand final.

Congrats to all the USA Team members. Excellent job guys! Kudos to Joseph and A.C for great finishes, glad A.C got to fly the Worlds.
Congrats to Onda and CPLR, two class acts.
The YS200 looks like a Beast.
Allure Bipe and a YS-200 for next year.........

Tetsuo must be really happy to finally win after so many seconds! Wonder what happened to CPLR in the finals, seems he had 3 less than perfect flights.... Why did Trumpp not fly any flights in the final? Did he not fly because of the wind or a technical issue?
Well done everyone and well done to team USA for getting all 4 pilots in the final!

Best F and both unknowns determine final placings.

Hi Don,
You must be very proud indeed and correct to be so.
For Joseph to get into two WC Finals at such a young age is remarkable.
I think AC did really well in getting into the Final also, it being his first WC's !
Looking at the various photo's posted on social media there seem to be a lot of photos showing the wind speed above and or way above the limit !
Did they proceed regardless or were the 'official' measurements under the limit ?

The wind was really horrendous, I am amazed that the flying was not stopped, I know in F5J that I used to fly 12m/s was the FAI limit but then again I have flown in a few contests where the limit was ignored.
Well done to everyone who was there, nice to see quite a few of the competitors here on the forum, it must be an amazing experience, would love to attend, as a competitor, sometime in the future, have been a spectator twice in the past. The fact that my local team ended in 6'th place, and we have a very small but keen F3A community, along with the fact that the team are all local pilots in my area is an inspiration to get rid of many years of rust and start competing again.
