Thanks to both of you!

Will try to finish radio installation this weekend and see if I can get the top wing on, still haven't measured but hoping I will get a negative 2.2 degrees without tweaking the struts.
Can I ask what incidence meter you guys are using? My multiplex one leaves much to be desired.

I have a number of 6S 5000 mAh Hyperion packs needing some use and saw this model reviewed in MAN. Caught my eye for sure. Looks like the Hacker A50-16S is the consensus power choice? APC 16x10E? 90A ESC as well. I like CC products, perhaps one of their new ICE controllers? What are the 'futaba' guys running for servos?
Anything else I may need to pick up along with the airframe? I fly off grass, anyone else running theirs off grass?

Thanks.

Can anyone tell me what lengths and quantity of servo extension leads are required to complete this bird?

Smchale, I'm a futaba guy and I'm running hitec hs-5065mg for ailerons, JR-9411 for rudder and JR-9411SA for elevator. Included wheels and spats are on the small side for really rough grassfields (or landings) But those are easily replaced.

CustomPC, depends on your servos, placement of servos and receiver placement. I used 2x 70cm 4x 15cm and 2x 30, these lengths were on the safe side but I Always measure, cut and solder extensions as extension connectors make me nervous.

I used a ton of extensions in this plane.

I have Hitec digitals in the tail and HS-65MGs in the wings. My Rx is roughly centered on the bottom wing strapped to the battery tray.

For that to work, I needed:

2x24" HD for tail servos (plugged into the servos on one end and the Rx on the other)
8x6" for the ailerons. Four in the wings permanently and four connected to the Rx permanently.

Has anyone flown the Angel 50e and the Miss Wind? Is the Miss Wind a better flying plane?

My Miss Wind showed up about a month ago and I must say its a beautiful plane. I'm going to start building it in the next few weeks and have just about finished picking my electronics. My main question for this build is the motor, I'm not the biggest fan of Hacker motors so I was planning on going with the Scorpion S 4025 12 (440kv) motor with a 17x10 prop. So far it seems that this motor is back ordered everywhere. I'm now thinking of going with a S 4025 16 (330kv) with a 19x12 prop but am concerned this could be a bit to torquey, what do you guys think? I'm not in a huge hurry to build this plane so I may also just wait till the 4025 12 is available.

here's my build:

AR7000 rx
Castle phoenix ice 100sb
Turnigy 6s 4000mah 20C
Scorpion S 4025 12 + 17x10 prop
or
Scorpion S 4025 16 + 19x12 prop
Align DS410 Aileron servos
JR DS821 Rudder and Elevator servos

mythinpaperwings,

Like you, my MissWind is also waiting to be assembled and I've been researching and gathering all the components in preparation.

I've also gone with the Align DS410 servos. These seem to be very good on the bench. Quiet and accurate with good centering.

On the tail surfaces i'm still tossing up between the DS821's which i have in my spares draw, or i might stick with the Align theme and go with a DS510 mini on the elevator and a DS610 std on rudder.

I did a lot of research about various power options and in the end decided to go with what is proven and bought the hacker setup.

I hadn't considered the 4025 series because i though they might be too light. I was considering the 4035 380kv motor as it is the closest match to the suggested Hacker.

Out of sheer curiosity i put both Scorpion 4025 motors through Motocalc and here's what i came up with.

The 4025-12 (440kv) is too fast for 6S. Your Amps will be through the roof. Most props in 16-19" range draw in excess of 75A. There are much more efficient choices.

The figures for the 4025-16 surprised me and it might work well. On most prop sizes the pitch speed is up to 5mph slower than the Hacker but 17x12 is a close match for thrust, pitch speed and duration.

Another option that has been suggested is a 270kv motor on 8S and this is something is starting to explore. It looks great on paper and your ICE can handle 8S without needing a separate battery or BEC.

interesting, I haven't done a motor calc yet. Esprit model lists the 4025 12 as an alternative. The 4025 is just slightly lighter then the hacker, plus it should produce more power. It will draw more watts but that's why I went with the ice 100. I believe there are several other people in this thread using the 4025 12. I've heard the hacker runs hot and doesn't have as much punch as the scorp. You should check out the june Model Airplane News, there's a review of the miss winds, the author sets his up with a scorpion 4020 16 on 6s. I have the align 510's in my trex 500, they're good servos but the gears strip pretty easy. The 410's are awesome, i've got 3 in a trex 250, lots of torque and pretty cheap. All align servos are rebranded savox servos so they're all pretty good for the $$$

mythinpaperwings,

I am also collecting the electronics for my Miss Wind. My motor preference is Scorpion S4025-12 because I have been using the Sorpion S4035-250 in my Wind S and am very happy about it. As you said, the motor is in backorder everywhere. I bought a S4025-10 (515kv) instead and using 5s to swing a 16 x 10 prop. What do you think?

For the servos, I am going to use INO-LAB HD 202MG for the wings, Hitec HS5645 for the rudder and may be HS5625 for the elevator.

Here's a screen shot of the different choices for comparison. I put the hacker in there as a basis for comparison as it's the recommended setup and is a known quantity.

Default RE: Sebart Miss Wind S 50E

I rec'd my Miss Winds last week and spent a couple afternoons putting it together. I'm not a die hard pattern flyer, more like a scale/jet flyer who really likes the flying characteristics of precsion pattern planes. The Miss Winds is a very sharp looking model, and struck me as one that I can put in the car and take out ready to fly within a few minutes....with very little worry. I had the first 3 flights on it today and it lived up to it's reputation. Clean and predictable. I really enjoyed it.

I have put it together pretty much stock. I used the Hacker A50-16s with an APC 16x10E prop, Hyperion G3 VX 6s 5000mAh pack. Could go with lighter as I only put about 2K back in them, but I have a half dozen packs for my high powered EDF models so it lets me go to the field without any charging gear and still fly quite a bit. I have the CC Phoenix Ice 100 controller and the data logger worked seamlessly (not that it was needed as I didn't tax the unit on the first few flights).

I made a couple minor changes:

1. I added a pilot and cockpit floor. I have a phobia about flying planes without pilots....afterall it's not an airplane without a pilot and this model is no different.

2. I added a pair of Ernst charge plug receptacles for the upper wing servos to plug into. Much easier to do while installing the wing, and only takes one hand to do it. I always orient the black lead (I'm a Futaba guy) to the back....per AC/DC, back in black...[8D]

3. As noted on here I used some 1" lengths of shrink tubing on the CF rods. Blue and red depending on the covering color at that location.

4. Wired the lower wing aileron servo leads with 6-pin Ashlok connector. Allows for only one connection, and it locks which is nice for a loose connection in the fuse.

5. I put a small film of epoxy on the top of the hatch washer so that the bolt head would a fix to it when tightened down. This is nice as it stops the bolt and washer from falling out when you remove the hatch.

6. I used 2-56 linkage on the rudder, as the supplied control rod was too short for the forward servo position.

7. I'll likely modify the wing bags by removing the velcro on one side....they are a total pain to deal with as they are supplied.

Think that's about it...here are a few pics showing the noted changes.

Thanks to those who have contributed to this thread, there are alot of good ideas on here (ie. the 4 aileron servos on 4 separate channels, works like a charm).

Congrats on the successful maiden.

That's an excellent idea to use the charge receptacles. I'm going to do the same. Thanks for the tip.

Can you tell me how many, and what length, of servo extension leads you used doing it that way.

I also have the Hacker and some 6S 5000mAh packs. Are yours the 25C or 35C Hyperions?

Can you share your flight data with this combination.

CustomPC,

Thanks for the comps. I don't know the length of extensions needed, for years I've made my own. Much much easier. Just get twisted wire in bulk as well as male and female connectors and you can custom make any length needed. Makes for ma much neater install too.

What sort of data are you looking for? I'd be happy to share the numbers.

The packs are 35C. Certainly not the top end, but good enough for spirited flight.

I have finished building this model and am setting up the servos. I am following the limits in the directions and am taking that 100 percent equals 40 degrees for each control surface. So when I program my radio for the triple rates, I am using the degrees as limit. For example, the rudder limits are 100%, 50%, and 40%, which is 40 degrees, 20 degrees, and 16 degrees. In order to get this movement in this control surface, I do have to increase or decrease the percentages in the radio control. Am I doing this correct by choosing the degree or should I just match the percentages?

Just placed my electronics order, decided to give the Hacker motor a try after all. I'll be turning a 17x10 prop off a 6s 4000 or 5000. I'm going to fit a 60mm CPU box fan inside the frame behind the motor to really pump some air through the fuselage, hopefully this will help keep hacker from getting to hot. Will post photos when I get everything setup.

Interested to hear how the 17x10 prop performs on the hacker motor on 6s. I'm currently using the 16x10.

Here are a few in flight shots from last week. Baby due this week so flying will come to a halt quickly.

They're great shots.

Do you mind if i use the Knife Edge pic as my avatar?

Congrats on the new baby. My 4th is due in 6 weeks so i know how restrictive it can be on flying.

Has anyone experimented by deploying all 4 ailerons in "Crow" as an airbrake? ie, raise both top wing ailerons and lower both bottom wing ailerons.

If yes, how did the plane behave with the brakes on?

And is it worth it?

I did.
I programmed a 5 mm. movement with slowed servos on the button on the gas stick.
To avoid accidental use and catastrofic results, I let it work only when the gas stick is on idle position.

To be honest, it is not as effective as I hoped for.

I will try to increase the movement and I'll let you know.

Hey Sean,

Is that the stock canopy for the Miss Wind, or did you put another one on? The ones I have seen look like a darker blue tint. By the way where did you purchase your Miss Wind?

I have the Spektrum DX7 Transmitter and an AR7000 Receiver. Has anyone been able to setup the Miss Wind aileron servos each on a separate channel using this transmitter and receiver, or do you have to use "Y" connectors to get it to work?

Prefer having everything on its own channel if at all possible.

To solve the problem of putting the battery back enough to have the right CG of the model, I just made in this way.
The weight of the part is 20 gr. The battery is then hold into the carbon cage with a rubber band on the front.
