What's the story with B.J. Craft's new Etude. Fuselage looks allot like the Nuance. Any news???

Pretty plane, at first glance it doesn't look like a 2m plane, maybe due to the paint scheme.

We have some of these on the way for European sales and are taking pre orders for early May delivery and I am sure Mike will stock them at F3a unlimited. It is a full 2m plane much like a updated Nuance I may have to revise my view that the Nuance is the best choice for a first serious pattern plane

Thank you for your interest in Etude,
Fuselage is the same as Nuance, but main wing, stab and rudder are different from those of Nuance.
The purpose of the change is to make its tracking performance the same as G2's.
Performance of Etude is the same as G2's except the perormance influenced by canalizer.
Knife edge loop can't be made smaller than G2 canalizer type makes. G2 easily makes smaller knifeedge loop than full up elevator loop.
So all classes do not need the above smaller knifeedge loop can use Etude.

I have an Etude.
I am taking it to Toledo. The selling price is $1600. That's a little less ($200) than the original Nuance and close to what the Prolog sold for.
Given that the Nuance and Prolog have a large and loyal following it makes sense to introduce this model.
The advantages I can see over the G2's is the lower cost and simplicity. The G2 designs are proving very popular and well thought out but there's room for this as an alternative.
I'll list these for sale. There's a shipment leaving the factory soon so I expect to take delivery around the middle of May.
I have a small amount coming so I will take preorders on these soon with a minimal deposit.
Expect the building of this to be nearly identical to the Prolog, Nuance and Episode. There are plenty of threads on those planes for buyers to follow.
We also have a template for the firewalls and will cut them for sale for those wanting to install a back mount motor like the popular Himax 210Pro.Much like what we have for the Caelus.
In short I applaud and thank BJ Park for this offering.

The Etude is a very straight forward build. BJ puts together a pretty complete kit (ARF). I’ll do a little bit of build, don’t expect much.


I had everything I needed build and ready to go before the Etude arrived. Included is a picture of the motor (Hacker Q80-13) mount installed. A little fine tuned grinding to do to the nose ring. It is the same as I used on my Nuance. When checking the Elevators Stabs for alignment and incident I found the incident was off by .48 degrees. Not much but I zeroed it out anyway.

Have you flown it yet? Where did you mount the battery tray and where does it balance with wings on or wings off?

Hi Guys, I am assembling an Etude for a mate, the last thing is the battery tray. The hold up with this is that I have no C of G for the model.
The local agent is currently overseas so I would appreciate any help with this, then I can get on with a project for myself !

Refer to any Nuance threads. It is very similar. Might be a good starting point.

I have a Nuance myself and I agree it is very similar but the wing area is less, the rudder much bigger and the stabs are different so I would like some confirmation regarding using Nuance settings.

It is doubly important as this is not my model,but thank you for your suggestion.

FYI. Via our local agent I have received an email from BJ that says the CofG starting point is between 180 and 190 mm from the leading edge.
So now we all know !

Hi All, I have just tried to balance the model at 180 m.m and it seems totally wrong ! The other part of BJ's email said " between the wing bolt and wing spar " well 180 to 190 is WELL forward of this.
My Nuance is between the wing bolt and tube so that is where I'm going.
I hope I have not mislead people ( as I have been!).

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2165233 On the Etude zero incidence for the Stab is set for us. Checking that both stabs are the same is critical. This is how I learned to do it. I had not attached the stabilizer on yet. Setting stab halves to the same incidence with paper. I inserted paper behind stab on one side, traced the stab with a sharp pencil then on two pieces of paper overlaid w/ squared corners cut out on the line. One sheet was set on the R and one set the L stab. I found mine where off by 0.48 degrees. Not much but I dealt with it because I knew it was there.

For throws I have found for me attaching two small pieces of double sided tape just in from the ends on my Angle Pro works well as shown. Just enough tape to keep it from sliding off. I cut off all the extra stuff on this meter to lighten it up.

I flew the Etude today. First takeoff was quick. My throttle curve was too hot. An easy correction in the pits. I went back to my Nuance curve and it was close enough there. A couple of clicks of trim and the Etude flew straight and level. The CG is very close right now. I’ll move it around more tomorrow. It fly’s slow, that surprised me. Slower it seemed than the Nuance. Nothing aerobatic today, loops, 45’s and a few rolls. It is close to where I want to be. Stall turns – smooth, clean and on axis. Up lines are straight and on line. I had too much elevator trim to zero throttle for vertical down lines and will take care of that tomorrow. It is early but, so far I like the way it flies. Tomorrow will be more trimming and CG work flying advanced sequence. A hazy afternoon and the plane was easy to see in that condition. It’s better looking in person outside. BJ’s improvements in craftsmanship and detail on the newest model have advanced and easy to see.

A few more flights and I’m excited about the performance of the Etude. CG is at 265mm and feels good now. The only mix is a little downline mix. It was windy today and it is rock solid in the air. A pleasure to fly such a stable plane.

Any idea on when the plane might be back in stock?
