"Ping" so loud you can hear it inflight

I have a Castle Creations HV85 esc currently connected to an atlas outrunner. Everytime I return the throttle to idle, the setup makes a "ping" so loud you can hear it at the top of a stall turn at the edge of the box. I am not sure if the ping is coming from the motor or the speed control. I have the brake set to "soft" but I'm pretty sure it was making the sound even when the brake was off. It has made this sound when connected to several motors. It is very annoying to hear during flight, especially during landing. Has anyone experienced this? How do I get rid of it?

Thanks,
Kurt

You are activating the brake. Make sure you use fixed endpoints in the programming so you can set the brake to not engage until you have low throttle and reduce the throttle trim as well. That will prevent the brake from engaging. Also, if you upgrade to the new 2.0 firmware for the 85HV the brake will be silent with no more ping.
