RE: EP LR1A Pogo
I honestly don't believe any other set-up is required for the Pros. Their flying ability alone will separate them from the rest of us.
In order to get new people involved, I believe we need a low cost, non intimidating event like this one. Let's be honest. The noise alone from the current 428 and 422 models scares the stuffins out of most but the most intrepid of of fellow club members. Let's try what we've come up with, it might need some modifucations but then it just might be a viable event as we have it outlined.

Jerry Small is going to come out to the Q-25 event again today and demo the Pogo. I heard that he is going to have another pilot fly the other prototype and put on a race. It sure looks good!

Speaking of Mr Small.
I don't know how many of you look at the NMPRA forum, but Jerry has cut 10 kits for his EF-1 Little Tony. It's a great looking model. The kits are selling for $135.00, and that includes shipping. Sounds like a good deal to me. The kits have laser cut fuses, foam wing cores and the fiberglass nose/cheek cowl piece. I'll try to post a photo, but I'm computer limited so we'll see how that goes. If you're really interested, you can contact Jerry using his email address. [email protected] I'll try to get those photos up later, I'm not having much luck right now.

I was just over on the NMPRA site and Jerry has posted some photos of the Toni, take a look at it and I think you'll agree, it's a good looking model.

RE: EP LR1A Pogo
I ordered one of Jerry's Toni kits,
tonight I started framing the fuse,, in about two hours, its sitting there complete, VERY easy assembly and well thought out. It will definetly influence the design of my Thunderchicken.
Looking forward to getting this beaut ready to fly,, oh well that is once we get some weather above say, oh 35 or 40 degrees,,
wonder what the Little Toni would look like on skis

Yes, Jerry has approved my THunderchicken. I sent him the preliminary layout and design which he said was good to go. As I finalize internals and structure I will be keeping up and making sure I dont step outside acceptable, but its not going to change the configuration in any case, just the structure.
FWIW, Hobby King got a new shipmetn of the Turnigy motors in, mine are in transit to me as we speak.

Is the electric power set up still a Turnigy SK35-42-1250 on 4s? Rhino 4s 2150 30c are on sale and I am ordering them for another project, with this motor in hopes of using it in the future to race.

RE: EP LR1A Pogo
That is the current status quo as of now. The way I read the "rules" as they stand, any motor that meets the max size of 35 diameter, and 42 length actually is legal, but some discussion is in works to have a spec motor, or possibly two. Still as I understand it, in a fluid state just to see what shakes out of the trees. As for batteries, I understand there to be a max weight limit, so those batteries I beleive will work, though in practice they may prove a touch small on capacity. But it remains to be seen.

RE: EP LR1A Pogo
Thanks. I stopped by Jerry's yesterday and picked up a kit. I only met Jerry recently, but I can tell you it is obvious he is 100% commited to do what he can to make this happen(this class of e pylon racing)! I feel confident that they are using the "build it, and they will come" attidude, when it partains to getting arfs, kits, and motors developed for EF1.

RE: EP LR1A Pogo
Is there any estimated availability date for the LR1A ARF? I would really like to have one ASAP so I can show it off to others as exactly what they can get and start planning a race. (It is time to plan the 2010 racing schedule).

Dan,
The LR-1A is coming from Horizon and you're really going to have to direct that question to them. I think the last date I heard, through the grapevine, was either June or July.
There are several that will be available in kit form long before that so, if you're willing to assemble one of the laser cut kits, you can be ready to go in a couple of days from delivery of the kit.

Arch,
I guess we will have to schedule a Electric Race for later in the year... September timeframe to give time for the ARF's to arrive. Do you know if Jerry Small still has any kits available?

Another Pylon racer was the Sig Hummer 1/2A. I converted one to elect last year and it just goes like stink with a 2408/21 motor and a 8 x 4 APCE.
The plane weighs in at 17 oz and the motor is producing 26 oz of thrust.
No one in the area want to pylon race, so I just out run them at the field

RE: EP LR1A Pogo
Archie, I think this is a great class your starting but I would like to give my 2C. I have been flying for 12 years now including F5D and F5B just to name a few classes. I have never been a kit builder. I think I speak for the majority of people flying these days. Most people assemble ARFS today. Very few people actually build from kits anymore. Sure it seems easy to some to build fuselages from wood and covering foam wings with balsa but not to the average Joe it doesn't. I for one will wait till you have a glass fuse. How much extra is it going to cost? Whatever it is it beats gluing wood and sanding and painting to just have a fuse that looks ugly if you never built from scratch before. Thats enough to keep me from coming out and playing.

RE: EP LR1A Pogo
I just stumbled on this site.
Here are a couple of picts of my Little Toni. This is different from the one that Randy Etken showed but is very similar. Enjoy the pictures.
Kits are available from Super T RC.

RE: EP LR1A Pogo
Gary, I would... What I NEED to do is build the kit I bought from Jerry, my current excuse is that the powerplant requirement has not been defined for the EF1 class.... Missed you at the Q-25 race Sunday!!
