Graupner 1600-5 12volt motor to brushless??
I have an old graupner brushed motor that I am using a FX 35 digital ESC 50AMP. I am wanting to go with a brushless set up on an old graupner pylon plane and have no idea where to start as far as converting the motor and esc. What prop size would a person have used on this set up. I just bought it at an auction.
thanks

What size is your plane, and what do you think its AUW might be?
Good heavens, that motor weighs 14.1oz!!!!!
Graupner Ultra 1600-5 12V #1792
1180Kv
2.700amps
0.0800ohms
14.10oz
For slightly lower weight you could get THIS: http://www.graupner.de/en/products/7...8/product.aspx
.......and at 1200W that would surely tear your wings off.
My feeling is that if you could find a far lighter 1200Kv motor rated for 500W-600W spinning a 10x8 perhaps, you'd have plenty of power.

I am actually going to use the motor on my40 size telemaster and use it as a trainer for my 6 yr old. Thinking 11x7 direct drive on a 3s or 4s lipo. The plane that I had in the pics was an older graupner racer that was about 5.5 lbs with out the battery
