We are having a meeting Jan 24th to discuss all racing for 2014. I am lobbing to include EF-1 along with Club 40 two pole. We will most likely do a modified airstart with EF-1. Our grass is a little too rough to get a good take off. I have had lots of noseovers during takeoff attempts. We can't put down any type of matting because of the full scale planes. My thought is to have a 30 second countdown till start. At Tuscaloosa we had as many crashes on take offs as we had races. The little wheels don't work well on grass. Greg Doe is also working on some ideas to help the take off situation. Has anyone hand launched an EF-1 yet?

We used to use 4x8 sheets of plywood laid on the grass for Q500 takeoff points. Not sure if that would be long enough for EF1 or not - but if you have your helper hold the plane at full throttle just before the flag drops, then shove like a race plane, it might work. I think we also had maybe some 2x2 at the far end of the ply just to make sure the end wasn't digging into the grass to "trip" the plane right as it got to the end of the ply.

I'm not having any luck getting information on a CF landing gear for the Shoestring. I was working with GraphTech RC. I sent them a new landing gear so that they could get the mold made and have not heard anything back from them for a couple of months.
If you are still wanting the CF landing gear, please contact them directly @ https://www.graphtechrcshop.com/contactus.sc
Maybe if enough of us ask they will get busy on it.
The Alabama Pylon Racing Association will be having a meeting to discuss our pylon racing schedule for 2014 in a couple of weeks. I'm trying to get everyone to combine Club 40 with EF-1 events (not racing against each other, two classes).
One of the rule changes we will most likely make will be larger than stock wheels, no wheel pants or a combination of that and possibly airstarts. We are having a difficult time getting the EF-1 planes to take off of grass runways.

No. If you look at the whell in the pkg the axle hole is very small. I drill my wheels out and then bush the hole with a brass tube ti help with longevity if using on a threaded axle. If it is a smooth axle I don't bush it. If you are looking for a direct replacement for the stock wheel this isn't going to work. But, if you are looking for a wheel to give great ground clearance, light weight, and not bulky this is an excellent choice. I have used this wheel for years on planes that needed a lot of ground clearance for long grass and irregular surfaces and have been very pleased with it.

Hey Barry, If you can locate one, the Pogo Gear is plug and play. It's a lot heavier gauge aluminum. I've been running one on my Shoestrings the last two years. Darrol Cady sells an excellent gear as well, of course you would have to drill it out. Not a big deal. That should hold you till your CF gear comes.

Guys, I know of a limited supply of CF landing gear for the Shoestring. Please PM me with your contact info if you are interested. The cost is $20 each plus $5 for mailing. I am not involved with this but have offered to get a list together for the person that is making these (they look great!).

As stated above, you must send me a PM with your contact information. I am simply the middle man that is helping the person that is making the CF gear. I will forward the information and you will be contacted by the person doing the molding.
These are high quality VERY limited production parts.

I'm not hiding! My friends are just being considerate. The gear has a 100% guarantee for a year, because if you can break it, I want to know why. Don't send money, just send me your address, and I'll send you a gear. I had to pay $12.00 with tax at my local hobby shop for the stock E Flite gear, so I set my price at $20.00 plus $5.00 for shipping. Try pricing carbon fiber cloth now that that they are building jumbo airliners out of the stuff? e-mail [email protected]

Hey Greg. Was hoping to see you at Muncie. I helped out instead of racing this time. Definitely in the market for two of these. PM me you address and I will get you a check in the mail.
