I'm working with a company to produce a carbon fiber landing gear for the E-flite Shoestring EF-1 plane. As soon as a new OEM gear arrives I will be sending it in to have the mold made. I'll post more info later. The stock landing gear is waaaaaaaay too soft!
NOW we have at least ONE post here!
WHERE are all of the old posts?????!!!

Will do Skully. Missed you at the T-town shoot out. I did terrible!
The molds will be made in September so they should be ready by the year end if not sooner. I will also be giving the specs to the wing joiner to them so that we can have a CF part there too. I really like the way the Shoestring flies and now that I know where the problem areas are the next build will be simple.

Tim, I would also like two sets of gear. I hope they will have some give to them. My Shoestring lands very well and even if it is a greaser landing the stock gear will bend a bit. I guess I should order a set to hold me over till yours are ready.

Hi Barry!
Yes, the stock gear bends VERY easy. I'll add your name to the list.
Does the spar tube fit loosely in your plane? Mine is so loose that the wings can flex quite a bit before the slack is taken up. I'm thinking about changing out the aluminum tube for a CF one that fits. The tube should be 12mm but mine is smaller than that. Maybe I can do a CF upgrade package that includes a new wing tube that fits too.

Tim - that sounds like a good idea - a CF upgrade package.

I have been really lazy lately and have been transporting my Ss in one piece. I will check it this afternoon and post the results. If it is loose I will want to be on that list also

I check my Ss and the wing is very tight with no movement so I didn't take it apart. I am getting ready to order another one and will be curious how tight it will be. I bought this from another Pylon Racer who flew it, in 2012, to a tie for first place after all the normal heats were flown. It is a good tight air frame.

I sell the carbon fiber wing tubes for $14.00 plus postage. They come in one length so I cut them down into three wing tubes. I have three left so if you guys want some let me know. i can get more. i am also interested in your CF landing gear. Email address: lwcloninger@gmail.com

Lenny, what was your original reason for going to the Cf wing tube. Did you notice any difference after you installed the tube?

There were incidences of guys folding the aluminum tubes going around pylon one just in Spokane and Helena alone. Not to mention other places that people have been talking about it on other forums. The Daras & the Pogos have the same problem. If you pull hard on the elevator and the plane looks like its smiling at you when its coming back from one your looking for trouble.

Lenny, What size tube are you using? What I measured and what E-flite supplies is different. The tube should be 12mm x 2mm x 400mm (2mm thick).

Maybe riding along with Greg Doe and Brad Clayton. Still working out the details.
Right now I'm 100% focused on getting my tow plane ready for our aerotow in October.

The new carbon gear for the Shoestring should be ready soon. I'll post the link to get one as soon as I have it.

Tim,
If you get to come to the race at OJA, please bring me a gear.
It is going to be a great race. Look forward to seeing you.

The last time I talked to the company they said they were waiting on the molds. I'll ping them again and see if I can get an update.
