NATS Shoestring Almost Done!

I am at the 90% done, 90% to go phase on my NATS EF1 airplane. This will be my first trip to the NATS, always wanted to go. So, go do EF1, visit the museum, see some relatives on the way back. The airplane is plumed, just needs paint on the cowling, wheel pants, canopy and a little moneycote on the fuse. With any kind of luck, it will test fly next weekend. I counter-sunk every external screw on the airframe. Also went with a solid horizontal stab. 86'd the Eflight pilot and put the old school Williams Brothers vintage racing pilot in. Added a tri-angle roll cage just like the full scale airplane.Cheers, Dave

By fare the best looking Proud Bird I have seen yet.....I think the quality of the Proud Bird kit is better. I might try one next year. I love the look of the shoestring, but quite frankly, I could have scratch build an airplane by the time I was done with all of the mods on the Shoestring...Some out of desire, but most out of necessity......My cowling, wheel pants and canopy have been shot and cleared with Custom Shop form TCP global. I actually striped the paint off down to the bare glass trying to save weight. It came in at 3 lbs, 6.3 OZ. Do you happen to know if there will be a location to test fly at the NATS site on Saturday afternoon? I have one airplane that is ready and has flown three races, this one however, will need to be test flown when I get there......(I know....I know)Cheers Dave

Dave,

There is a grass field just behind the main pylon site in Muncie. Some have used the road to take off and then landed on the grass. This is an open field therefore others may be using it. Kind of like a local flying field.

Thanks Dan,I know about that one, we were wondering if any of the paved surfaces would be available after 6 or 7 PM on Saturday. I have a feeling that Sunday is going to be a crazy after they put the pylons up. We will figure it out. See you there and thanks for all of your hard work. I can only imagine what it is like to coordinate a contest like this. My brother and I have always wanted to go to the NATS, but never really thought we would be competitive enough in Quickie 500 to make the trip worth while. EF1 is perfect for us! Race, see the museum, buy the tee-shirt....one more box checked off the bucket list!Cheers Dave
