Default DD tail motor?

Hi,
I want to buy a DD tail motor however i do not know which one to buy or where i should purchase it. I've purcased spare parts from helihobby but they lag so i dont really want to use them again. I also see some pictures where the prop of the tail motor is on the otherside with a funky dd mount, why do people do that and how? Thanks guys. Links to the sites for purchase would be great

Hi

I do not have any good site to recommend.

U can mount DD propeller in either direction (Pushing or Pulling). If you mount in such a way the wind blows towards the motor is considered Pulling. Wind goes away from motor is Pushing.

Pulling: Good thing is that it can help cool your motor. Bad thing is that one day the propeller might come off due to pulling.

Pushing: Good thing is that the propeller won't come off. Bad thing is that no wind blow to motor to cool it.

I strongly recommend you NOT to buy a DD system.
I have an Aerohawk w/ a DD tail system and it causes me only trouble. The stock motor was far better.

Thanks guys for your quick ressponses. Since its only like 10 bucks i think ill try the DD tail motor anyways. Um superhornet, do you have to reaarange the wiring or anything, cause if i put it in the "pulling direction" wouldn't the prop be spinning in the wrong direction?

You can try dual tail motors. Dual tail motors draw less current than DD tail and tail authority (power) is as good ad DD.
Check out www.like90.com for dual tail mod or get the mount for 2nd motor and brushed motors (Cat# DCM-166) at allelectronics.com

Hi tweaksalot

U only have to reverse the position of the motor pointed to, the direction of the propeller and also the motor wire (Either in + to + or + to - or in other words, reverse it)

The differences between DD and Geared Drive (Either Dual motor or Single Motor) is:
1 - DD may consume more current and how much current is depend on what type of propeller u using.
2 - DD has faster response than Geared Drive. Geared Drive not only trade RPM for Torque but also its response time.

Dual tail or DD tail does add more weight on tail. You need to move battery forward to counter it.
Dual tail weigh seems to be equal to DD tail's, I dont have to move battery when changing between dual and DD.

I will tell ya I just went back to geared drive....I had some problems weight wise but most people dont have the problem like I had. Have you bought the motors yet? If not let me know and mabey we could make a deal or something as I have a few dd motors and a few props left. The dd motors...well one is brand new in package I believe and the other 2 have mabey about 3 minutes total time flying....me and my buddy both tried dd....I bought 4 but ruined one with a hammer...wanted to look at the insides anyways lol. Its up to you but just thought I would offer.

I have had plenty of success with the dd motors. The real big thing that i liked about the dd system is that you dont blades the tail blades as quickley. And if you do, cost only like $1 for a new prop. The responce is real good.

If you connect them in a series, the first motor will take all the power and the second motor will run veeery low.
