"Heli-Search" fully functional and ready
I have 27 vendors in the "Heli-Search" database (whew!) and it seems to be working fine, so I'll consider it fully functional now. I've added a html "front end" to make it more user friendly. This has already saved me some time in locating some HB parts I needed - hope it works as well for you and saves you some time.
Find it at: http://www.ddd.communitech.net/helis...helisearch.htm
The search "spider" will be crawling through the listings and updating the site on a regular basis but I've not yet decided on the interval. This process is pretty intensive on the server.
I'll be adding a "Submit" form where you can suggest vendors to be added to the search database soon.
Enjoy

I set up a section where you can submit a heli-related site. Push a button and the URL is "crawled" then will sit awaiting approval for the next time I log on as Admin. This will save me from having to scour the web looking for more sites to add to the database.
Yep- and now when you do you can add your own URL
One good thing if it all works well is that the search results will be immune to the nasty stuff that's found all to often on the web. This is because I can control what sites are scanned and added to the database. I figure this is a plus for the younger kids.
I should make custom parts

To others: If you make or sell heli stuff and want to run a small ad on the search page send me an email. I have a simple rotating ad sytem set up where your ad is matched with keywords typed in by the perrson using the search page. Example: Someone enters "head lock gyro"....they get search results based on "head lock gyro", but in addition they see a small ad from you if put those terms in your ad.
I hope to promote small business with this ad system. If I do ever charge for the ads the rates be very reasonable, as I'm only looking to recover expenses - plus maybe get a part for my HB now and then.

Brits / Aussies (and others):
I have the US vendor database almost done. I'd like to add a separate section for non-us vendors. If you know of European / Asian / Other vendors who sell heli-stuff please forward me their link(s).

Update for non-US heli buffs.
Although I'm still adding vendors and sources I have a bunch of non-US sources now that you can confine your search to.
Click the SEARCH VENDORS menu box - a list of all available vendors will open up. Vendors names in that list have the suffix "UK" for United Kingdom, "AUS" for Australia, "JP" for Japan and "CHI" for China.
After selecting a vendor your search will be confined to the info that the "spider" has last copied from that site.
The default selection under the Search Vendors is "All".
And again - please let me know if you know of any other site that I need to add.
Thanks
