esky Honey Bee Battery Poll
I have heard a lot of problems with the 4 in 1 controllers burning up with the LiPo batteries and the helicopters not lifting correctly with the NiMh batteries. I'm trying to figure out the problem but have not been able to get any good information from the manufacturer or the distributers. I figure the best way to figure out why some people are having problems and others are not is to take a poll on what works and what doesn't to get a final solution to the problem.
I'm asking for the following information:
Have you burnt out a 4 in 1?
What battery are you using (11.1 v LiPo or 9.6 v NiMh)?
What is the number on the back of the speed control (EMSG0A or EMSG0B)?
Thanks,
Jim

RE: esky Honey Bee Battery Poll
Morning Jag,
I burned up an EMSGOA first second I hit the trottle! Have a new one in (haven't tried it yet) but it is the same number. I sure hope there is no correlation to the EMSGOA and burning up. Have had absolutely terrible luck with there little heli's and thought the Honey Bee 2 would be the answer...so far, either I suck or it does. Since so many folks seem to be able to have a plane that flies regularly, it must be me.
Good luck on your hypothesis. Please keep us posted on the findings so I can either give up or or specifically order the other controller when this one burns.

RE: esky Honey Bee Battery Poll
Steve,
What battery are you using?
My theory is that the A version is only good for up to 9.6 volts. I have sold fixed pitch and collective pitch that have the A version. The replacement for the collective pitch is the B version. Quite a few people are having good luck with the 11.1 volts packs and I believe that they get away with it because they have a B speed control which is rated higher.

seems a lot of people are using the 11.1v LiPo's at between 1000-1800 mAh w/o burning the 4-in-1 but some haven't. Not sure its a battery problem... might be the 4-in-1 itself, maybe not enough quality control or improper connection somewhere. not sure exactly what you mean by version A and B.

Hi,
Answer #1 NO, (knock on wood)
Answer #2 LiPo 7.4 V 1200 mAh or NimH 8.4 V 650mAh on my Twister FP.
LiPo 11,1 V 1000 mAh (so far) on my Twister CP.
Answer #3 Both. One of them on my FP the other on the CP. Both 6 chanells.
From what I see Twister and Honey Bee 2 are identical except the decals.

Hi Jim,
1) Yes, I did burn up a 4-in-1 once, but it was my fault. I shorted the wires to the tail motor together. It blew a surface mount fuse on the board. I took it in to work and got one of the techs to put on a new fuse. It's still running striong.
2) I have two Honeybee 2 CPs. On both of them I use 11.1v 1200mah li-po packs.
3) Both have the EMSGOB.

"Triton" is a fine charger, although Duratrax's "ICE" looks cool on the tech precs. I don't know what is hidden under the hood for the "Ice", so I decided for the "Triton", trusting the "Great Planes" firm.
If I was judging only the tech precs my opinion is that "Ice" beats out the "Triton", specifically on the set up potential. E.g. Voltage gut off for LiPos adjusted from 2.5 V.

RE: esky Honey Bee Battery Poll
Well, I think I finally got this thing figured out. It seems as though the EMSG0A speed control is good for up to 9.6 volts and the EMSG0B speed control can handle up to the 11.1 Li-po batteries. That explains why some burn out and others don't. The fixed pitch version came with the EMSG0A version and the Honey Bee 2 (collective pitch) version could have either and the CP2 has the EMSG0B.
We are curently carrying all of the helicopters, batteries (11.1v Li-po) and parts.
