purchasing the BCP bell hiller in separate parts
Hey, i was wondering if you could buy the bell hiller for the BCP in separate parts(not in the kit). The store i get my stuff from doesn't have the kit in stock but has the blade grips and the pushrod/arms in stock, part #'s 1171 and 1172. Is that all that i would need to purchase, and then just reuse the spindle and the bearings?
thanks

ok i called horizon and they told me that those are the parts that you would need to upgrade to the bell hiller setup if you reuse the spindle and bearings. I was surprised at how much cheaper it is to do that than it is to purchase the kit. It'll cost me $18.49 instead of $38.99 which is what the kit is worth (Those are in canadian dollars).

If you want new bearings and a spindle the kit is by far cheaper than purchasing it all seperately. But, if you only want the grips and pushrods, then it's much cheaper like you found out to just pick up the 2 parts.

I purchased the separates, and they worked fine. It is a pain to get the bearings out of the old grips, but with a little work it can be done. It is probably best to start with the whole kit, and then buy the separates for spare parts. I have not broken a grip yet, but has read many posts of the B-H parts being weak.

yeah some people break the ben hiller blade grips all the time, but i have crashed numerous times and never broke any part of that linkage. however Im always takeing the control arms off repairing other things, so maybe the fact that the arms go on so much easier helps. lol.....

Looked at doing the same thing. The new grips use 3 bearing each. If your original grips only have 2 bearings each you will need to purchase two more bearings. If your helo is new(mine was purchased at Xmas) it already has the 3 bearing grips.

ya i am going to buy the blade in the same order and the bell hiller so i assume that it will have the 3bb blade grips.
just curious, what makes it so hard?(I have never seen the blade grips so i don't know what is involved in taking the Ball bearings out)
It is a pain to get the bearings out of the old grips, but with a little work it can be done

The bearings fit tight, and there isn't much to tap on to get the first bearnig out. Once the first bearing is out it is pretty easy to remove the next two. You just need to be careful to make sure you don't damage a bearing when removing them.
