Quote from Srouthouse on Repair Question:
figured out what my swashplate vibration was. after a slight blade strike that busted nothing, the upper part of the swashplate was pulling out of the bearing.
had my first strong blade strike resulting in the main shaft and feathering shaft and stabilizing shaft being bent. repairs are still under 10 bucks
I too seem to be having these same problems, plus my swash plate is not level
....SR, how did you fix the swash problem?..and where are the "feathering shaft" and the "stabilizing shaft"(in the fly bar)? ...my swash is not level and the servo
arms for the swash are not in the neutral position as shown in the manual..is this a problem?...if so, how to fix?...and finally, how do you level the swash?...is it supposed
to be perpendicular to the main shaft or the ground?...and do you start the leveling process with the lowest control arms for swash servo and then work up the control arms toward the blades?...thanks for any assistance John H.

John,
Is your Heli drifting execesivly? Note some drift will occur regardless. The force of the tail rotor pushing the heli as it stabalizes tail rotaton. In fact the swash may be slightly off level to compensate for this. also before checking the swash for level ensure that the trims are set to neutral.

RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk
when you turn your radio on then plug the heli battery in with all your TX controls trimmed to nuetral or 0 your swash should be level with the mainshaft [the shaft nthe swash rides on] if you have wrecked the heli theres a good chance you busted the servo gears.
mike sends these out trimmed and flying perfect. the feathering shaft is the shaft that holds both blades and your blade grips together.
i fixed my swash by using superglue but locktite would have been fine. my swash problem did not make the bottom part unlevel like yours.
to level you trim everything out to 0 sticks in center and throttle at the bottom. i cant tell you which arm to adjust because you need a pitch guage, trimming the wrong one could mess your pitch up.
my bet is on a stripped servo gear

RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk
Hi EA and SR....thanks for the help...I need it..if you're going fly it,
you got to repair it...the servos work but not a huge amount of travel in
them..and when I spin it up the swash "bounces" when the elevator is a one
extreme but not at other...and same with the aileron (bank left/right)..
the bounce occurs only on one stick extreme, but not the other...the swash is
angled slightly forward...I should tell you guys that a hard blade stile
started this and caused one of the long control arms from the second portion of the swash
(going from bottom to top) to the fly bar to bend and one of the short control arms
from the third portion of the swash (counting from bottom up) to the fly bar to bend..
think I've fixed these (I hope)...in present state (unlevel, bouncy swash),
the BH will spin up but won't lift off...ugh...anyone with anymore thoughts other
than hope there a good LHS and tech nearby?....thanks, JMH

RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk
jmhh
I read throguh some of the posts and it sounds like 1. the servo in the back needs to be adjusted by releveling the swashplate so the elevon is not leaning to the front. Yhe control arm may only need to move one thread on the plastic to line up horizontal 2. You may need to reset the pitch with the radio by using the unlock switch and the plt and pzt.
Make the servo as level as possible with mechanical means and save the trim tab for fine tuning and check the battery placement for a good center of gravity. As far as the pitch, if you only need normal flight start at a about -3 degrees ( a little postive wont hurt), +5 or 6 mid stick and up to +8-10 full stick

RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk
jmhh sounds like either the swash may be tweaked and or the center part of the swash is pulling itself out of the bearing and needs to be reseated.
ea01bg if super glue can just get me 1 more flight out of her lol

Hi HeliHap...thanks to you and SR for the continued help...
much appreciated...a final (I hope) question re: leveling the
swash...know the swash should be perpendicular to the main shaft.
..do the servo arms and control arms need to be in the exact
positions shown on page 14 of the manual,if the swash is
otherwise level...or can they vary some?..thanks John H.

RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk
they could vary some as you note the important aspect is to have the swash level and the linkage rods are lined up to the shaft in the vertical plane. The elevator servo rod has a slight tilt but the swash still needs to be level. you do want them set up pretty close to the pic so you will have a good amount of travel but again get the swash level. then once you are mechanically set up, use the radio trim to fine tune.
let us know how it goes.

RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk
I just bought the 450 pro from Mikes shop, its my second heli, first one with a belt driven tail. I had a mishap with the ground and had to replace the tail boom, now the belt keeps riding over to the right, going over the edge of the belt pulley. How do I correct this??

Yeah, checked tension, and boom is new with no defects. I replaced the belt and that seemed to fix it. I didnt fly anything more than a hover due to excessive wind today. I'll see how it does tomorrow at the firehouse.

Re: Some Possible Repair/Troubleshooting Help
Below is a link to a Eflite Blade CP repair, setup and
troubleshooting site...experienced pilots may think its
not valuable and that the birds are very different...and
they are...but to a "noob" like myself, the site offers
many basics that seem helpful, adapted, of course, to the
Black Hawk...cheers, John H.

RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk
I had bought a Trex case and the black hawk settles into in well. The case above looks about the same but cheaper. Mine has the cubed foam you pull out to customize the fit.

RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk
I am hunting for one but do know if they already have a retract system if you can away not hooking up a servo and bypass them. Might just get a cheap one and paint it for now.
