I've finally had enough of the Gazaur Mars helis.  The lower frame really does break too easily - and it's because of the landing gear setup putting stress on the weakest part of the frame.  It always breaks in the same place.  It seems every time I have a mishap I break a lower frame and it's just getting too expensive with only a single supplier out there (there is one more but the prices are the same).

The Mars was a fun heli, but it looks like its heyday has passed.

wow...another gazaur mars pilot leaving.[]    I guess just there's just a few of us left.   For some strange reason my Poseidon is flying like a beast the last 2 weeks.  Changed all my linkages and dampers, bearings.   she's as smooth  as silk and flys like a dream.  I would jump on the offer on the kit but i have so much parts here i'm good for a long while.

I wont be buying any more 450's helis except a cheapo to play with. since i have alot of eletronics laying around.

the 500 size is perfect.... not so bad on lipo costs at all.  i paid $55 shipped for 2 zippy's 2200mah 25c 3S.

I'm also flying a Trex 500 ESP - I'm flying 6S1P 3000mAh batteries on mine.

Sorry to bother, but a have a major issue. I am running a Gazaur 480 Poseidon, Lingo-8 4100kv, 55a lingo ESC, Thunder power 2200mah lipo, on a futaba 8u (spektrum 2.4 interface). Now I have flown this bird many times wonderfully with my old JR 7202, since I switched the radio I have had major power loss issues. I have my throttle at around 60% and pitch at around 5 degrees for 3//4 throttle (hover), yet when I throttle up to take off my gazaur starts lossing power as if it was completely out of juice. Now I have checked the current battery and it is at 12.2 volts. Is there any ideas what this is? what to check?

Thanks for taking the time to check out my problem,
DoC

WHen it has power loss does the engine wind up or down?

Maybe the one way is slipping?

Is the motor cog good?

The gears are fine, the motor seems to be spooling down slowly, as if a battery was running out of juice. At first throttle the motor is strong but the higher up the throttle the faster the "drain". I am lucky if I can get it to a hover before rotor death.

(edit) Could this be signs of a bad battery in any way?

try reprogramming the esc with a linear throttle curve (0,25,50,75,100) and rebind.  check your lipo, and esc, and motor connectors for cold soldier joints.  and finally try a different esc.   does the motor sound weird?

Hey noob! long time. Hope all has been well the helicopter land.
This is a new esc and I have reprogrammed twice, I have also checked all soldier points. The motor sounds great, spools up nice to lift off speed..... then it starts to decline. I have another battery I will try at lunch, btw all my batteries are 2100mah+ and 20C+ discharge. I finally got this bird setup the way I wanted, now it hates flying. :S

Thanks for the help. I will try and retest the esc on another bird.

Thanks Doc,  all is very well in helicopter land.  been enjoying my new trex500 and especially my poseidon 480.  my poseidon is flying just fantastic. [8D]   its smooth and powerful.  here's a vid from a month ago.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6Mz9KHg9kQ

i hope you figure out what going on with yours.  it can be frustrating ...i've been  through it.   its nice now that i've been flying the gazaur helis for over a year now, troubleshooting is really easy.

Try turning off the low voltage shut down on the ESC.

Maybe your pack is a bit weak and when you spool up your loading the pack enough that it trips the low voltage cutoff on the ESC and then drops the power.

THats what the ESCs do when they reach the low voltage cutoff they back power down so you slowly decend and land safely. I prefer to leave mine off. I keep a good eye on my packs when charging and i know about how long i can fly before they get into a critical discharge range.

Yours might be set really high right now.

WHat kind of packs are they?

Mine is set at 3.0v per cell on power cut off, but what is the protection on/off on the 55a lingo escs? thougth that is exaclty the problem I'm having one way of another. Maybe I could try the lingo with 3.0 cutoff and protection off?

Thanks for all the help guys. I love my heli, just want my baby to fly.

Well like i said it depends on your packs. If your packs are strong and with a 4100kv motor they will need to be pretty darn good. That motor i know pulls mad mad amps. Everything i have over 3200kv pulls more then i like just sport flying.

Why dont you just turn it off till you can figure out your problem. If you turn it off so there is no low voltage cutoff and it still is doing it then you know you need to look at a different area.

You never did mention what packs you have?

15C, 30C or what?

Good News! The guys at Gazaur emailed me: I reset my throttle max & min, reprogrammed my esc, and only use the EVO 2500mah 25C. She flies again, well..... kind of. I now find I have a gear stripped, and a cracked blade, darn my luck. Still great news though. P.S. my Gazaur hovers smoother with a stripped gear then all the 450s in local AMA club.

I will soon go to the 4cell and a lingo-7 as recommended by Gazaur too.

that's great Doc.  now fix that gear and put her up in the sky where she belongs   i'm not too fond of the lingo's esc. they run hot and have problems like you mentioned.   Hobbymate sent me a brushless motor to test and its awesome.  this one. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20082

cant be beat for $15.  i'm running it on a hobbywing 40a esc.   but probably a mystery 45a esc should be able to handle it.

Thanks for the tip noob, any motor you recommend has to be worth the $15 to try. I decided to break my heli all the way down and rebuild. On breakdown I have noticed little to no wear and found no loose screws or bolts. I believe this says alot for Gazaur, though there Esc might need better cooling.
I will replace this servo and replace the gears in this one later. I got a deal originally on the HS-65HB, big waste of time now I gotta go all HS-65mg. though I am
I hope to get her up soon, everyone asks about it when they see it, and doubly so when I have my custom carbon fiber canopy on!

Thanks agian for all the help BowerR64 & noobflyer01

Unfortunately, that's how you learn - you do need to get a cheaper "beater" heli, though.

Hi all, beautiful day here in east Texas although it's a lil' bit cold. Please forgive my lack of artistic talents, I was really trying get an idea worked out for the air vents and got crazy with the magic marker. Has anyone else tried cutting air vents? The vents I cut look like nostrils and keep the esc and motor very cool. I am running a 40 amp Tower ESC with a 2500mah 14.8 v Lipo, Lingo 8 motor and Futaba 520 Gyro. I have 2 pics but don't know how to upload them here. They are in my gallery if anyone is interested.
