You might be able to turne up the gain on your gyro.

RE: EXI 450 thread

nope. tried that.. something is definately not right at all.. i am thinking that during punchout the esc loses its bec voltage.. not really sure.. could be the motor is too weak

RE: EXI 450 thread

i was running the JGF 450F and the align bl35x. this is the powerhouse combo. with the gyro and tail servo you have punchouts are solid with no wag or shakes. i wouldn't buy anything with exceed brand. of course you know now that they are JUNK. i know it cost alot of money for good parts but its worth it.

RE: EXI 450 thread

Sounds like your H/S is really low. Get a better motor. I run a scorpion 8 in my BH running a 13t and its crazy. I have my throttle curve turned down to 85% currently. At 90% running CF blades it can do full punch outs just like the helicopter drags. Pretty cool.

RE: EXI 450 thread

ok guys.. whats a good esc and motor combo? i want something with plenty of power for 3d but i would love to have long flight time if at all possible!! yea, i want to have my cake and eat it to!! lol my other rex has an align esc and align 430l motor.. seems to be great

bigairhonda 06-24-2008 03:52 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

A great combo would be a CC 35amp speed control and a scorpion #8 motor 12t or 13t. I have this combo in my BH and it's crazy.

sheerider1026 06-24-2008 04:06 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

lol.. i just ordered an align 430l and align esc.. i know how that will perform.. hope it works out... i think the H/S is very low and when i punch it the motor stalls

RE: EXI 450 thread

you should got at least the 430xl motor. i don't know about the 430L motor but the 430xl i'm running on my trex now is good. not as good as the JGF 450F motor but still good. run the 430xl motor with the bl35x and 13T pinion and you'll be getting around 3000 rpm. here's some link for both motors that i personally have tried.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXvoBBHK5H4 this one is the JustGoFLy 450F motor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBm0mmtL_y4 this one is with the 430xl motor

both were running with the bl35x esc.

sheerider1026 06-24-2008 08:35 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

the 430l motor is pretty powerful also.. i am running it with a 13t and 35g esc.. also have a gy401 and 9650 tail servo with hs65mg on the cyclic.. it skyrockets on punchout.. i will un an 12tooth on the exi for a little more tourqe.. should be good to go.. i have noticed that the tail blades on the exi are very flexible.. i wonder if stiffer tail blades will give more tail authority.?

noobflyer01 06-24-2008 08:47 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

i like the bl35x better than the G. it has the better heat sink. I ran 3 straight pack in idle up and the esc is not even warm.

yeah the tail blades suck. i picked up the align 450 tail blades for 5 bucks for 2 sets. I also upgraded the both fins to carbon from align with the knighthead and horizontal fin holder. this will make your exi alot more classy. the head is pretty solid so no upgrading needed there. you can however get the align metal blade grips and it will fit. the align metal blade grips have thrust bearings which the exi doesn't. I also upgraded the entire tail section. after all the upgrade i got for it the price ballooned up to the trex price range. that's why i went with the trex.

The exi is an exact clone of the trex 450SA.

sheerider1026 06-24-2008 08:51 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

i have a copterx which is an all aluminum trex clone, its vey nice.. i will keep the exi basic to lean all the 3d i can handle.. replace the plastic with plastic and when it dies i'll just scap it out and build another the 35x esc has a 6v bec, whee the 35g has a 5v bec.. i have head that the digital tail servos will not tolerate 6v, but run great from the 5v.. thats why i went with the 35g

noobflyer01 06-24-2008 09:06 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

yes you're right about the bec. but it will run fine with the 35x. the only problem with the 35x is that you would need to get a step down regulator if you want to run with the faster 9257 digital servo. Since you and I are both using the 9650 for tail servo the regulator isn't necessary. even finless bob recommend the x over the g. the x also have an extra funtion that the g doesn't. that function is governor mode.

sheerider1026 06-24-2008 09:37 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

dam, i did not know that the 9650 would be ok with the 6v bec.. live and lean i guess.. im sure it will be fine with the 35g. my other trex flies great with it.. an extra volt of power would definately speed the sevos up though.. what radio are you using?? i am using the dx6i and love it..

noobflyer01 06-24-2008 09:43 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

i'm using the dx6 at the moment. that may change soon once my mars 480 is completed. i would like to use the dual idle modes from the dx7. i used to hate the dx6 but now i can program it without any problems. i hope i don't have to relearn everything for the dx7.

Im running a CC 35 with a scorpion 8 13t. Very good head speed. Around 3300. I do however turn it down when Im out of CF blades.
Has anyone ordered replacement parts for there exi from Xheli? I was looking at there new all aluminum special edition TG450 and would like to know how they are with replacement parts. If you look closely at the TG version the head is slightly different from a TREX.

Just ordered the exi450 from Xheli. Its only 89 dollars with free shipping and extra blades! I will be taking my equipment out of the old stinger 3 and putting it into the EXI. I hear it flys very well, I had nothing but problems with the stinger3.

RE: EXI 450 thread

Hey noobfler01.......are you trying to hijack my handle? I see your account was created after mine. Whats really weird is that you bought the same heli I bought. The EXI 450. O well maybe it's just that great minds think alike. Here is a shamless plug for me on the internet. Xheli (the place you buy the EXI from) snagged the video of me flying my helicopter and put it on their website. My buddy (who shot and posted the vid on youtube) noticed the video got crazy hits over a couple days and then found it was on their site. Wow I'm a minor helicopter celb and I'm only a beginner. LOL Well at least I fly a little better now than when that vido was shot.

Well as for my EXI build up I went ultra cheap'o' and used an E-sky motor, $5 TowerPro servos and an E-sky head lock gyro. I think my total for the copter was about $400. I use the 2400mAh Mystery brand batteries from Hong Kong too. Half the cost of name brand batteries and they are only slightly starting to puff after about 10 months of decent use.

Happy flying

RE: EXI 450 thread

cool. same handle and same heli. the exi 450 is a great heli. the head on the exi is better than the trex 450 sa. ( i own both) . it even flys better than my trex. they just need to improve the on the plastic fins. and those plastic blades are a bit heavy. throw in some wood blades and i would be very pleased.

RE: EXI 450 thread

I keep hearing good things about this heli, so I took advantage of the sale xHeli had last weekend and ordered one for $69 shipped. ($69 ***?) I wanted a 450 heli in addition to my King2.

I am starting off with a cheap build. I already have a Telebee 302 on the shelf. Will probably also get:
310watt Chinese motor
40A Dynam ESC
4X HXT900 servos
AR6200 RX
2X Zippy 2100mah 25C

I should be flying a 450 for about $200. I hope it doesn't ruin the King for me!

You can get away with that equipment but if you're gonna be doing any 3d its not gonna look pretty. even when i used the HS55 on cyclic it was only good for sport flying. not so good with flips or rolls. the Hs65's will fit and works wonders. the hb or the better mg's are the way to go with this bird.;). i tried alot of different brands and the hitec hs65mg's are simply the best right now. run that and the gy401 /w 9650 and you're set.

RE: EXI 450 thread

It will be awhile before I am doing any kind of 3D, so this is OK for now.

The HXT900 should be better than the HS 55. HS 55 has about 15 oz/in of torque and the HXT900 is rated 20 oz/in. The HS 65 is a little over 22 oz/in. I realize they will explode on impact, but they are like $4, so explode away.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am thinking about getting this heli and it looks awesome, to keep the price down can I use hs-55s and a hs-65 for the tale.

yes that will work. they are limited in there capabilities but they will work. the bad news is that they will strip in minor crashes. the hs65mg's is what you need on the cyclic, gy401/ 9650 on tail.
