EXI 450 thread

1 Attachment(s)
I just got an exi 450 and was looking for a thread for it and found none. so maybe i'd start one. Many of you may have already know this but the exi 450 is a clone of the trex 450 se v2. I dropped it off at the LHS for setup. The guy there just so happens to build a trex 450 se v2 and i laid it down beside it to do comparisons. almost identical.

anyways here's my list of equipment that is getting installed

JustGoFly 450F 11T
Waypoint 35a esc
3 HS65MG cyclic servos
1 HS81MG tail servo
Telebee zoom gyro
ThunderPower 2200mah 25C Lipo
325's wooden main
dx6

RE: EXI 450 thread

Noobyflyer, I also just got an EXI 450 basic. I am impressed by the quality. Like you, I have the HBK2 and the Belt CP. I have good electronics in the EXI to include DX6I, Hobbywing 30A OPTO ESC w/ 2A switching UBEC, and Futaba 401 Gyro. I like the ability to upgrade with TREX parts but I would also like to be able to get EXI replacements. So far I have not been able to locate a parts source nor any manuals, parts list, or set-up instructions. If you or any one has a lead on this, please let me know.

RE: EXI 450 thread

danceswithdogs...glad to hear you have one. you have a great gyro there. i have the gy401 also but its on the blackhawk at the moment. the telebee should be good enough for now till i start doing heavy 3d.

Is your exi450 set up? Mine will be finished on Friday. i have the dx6 so i can share the settings with you once its done. 2 more days can't wait.:D

also what are you using on the cyclic and tail?

RE: EXI 450 thread

Noobflyer, it would be good to share DX6i settings. I am guessing they will be similar to our Belt CPs although, my Belt is tuned more toward hovering and forward flight than 3D. I went with Hitec HS-65HB servos for the cyclic and a JRPS185 super high speed sub micro 6 gram digital servo for the tail. I think the blistering speed of the 185 servo combined with the GY401 gyro will make a good combination. I am hoping the little 185 is strong enough - I think it will be. As an ARF, my EXI 450 came with no paperwork, so I am setting it up with what I have learned from my ESky models and internet forums. I contacted Xheli and Raidentech today who told me nothing is available on the EXI directly but parts and manuals for the Trex 450se V2 are what I want. Raidentech mentioned, http://www.rchelitechnics.bc/manuals...-REX%20450%pdf also, http://www.trextuning.com/videos.php
I haven't looked these up yet but was told the second is better, and that I should "d/i the T-REX SE English Manual." (not sure what that means but I will muddle along). I noticed you upgraded the blades, as will I. These are the first plastics I have seen ... mine are bent upward about a sixteenth of an inch and what is with the paper covering the holes in the bottom??? Good luck with your first flights!

RE: EXI 450 thread

first... as far as I know there are no parts for the EXI. it's a direct clone of a trex, so if parts break.. buy Trex parts.
second... go to helifreak.com// look in the finless trech room and find the videos for setting up CCPM.. those are all done on a trex.. there are even complete build videos there for the trex (and others)
third... the paper covering holes is there to cover the holes. the holes are there to lighten/partially balance the blade... leave the paper covering the holes

RE: EXI 450 thread

Thanks for the Finless, helifreak.com tip...it is right on target. I downloaded the Trex SE English manual...it is very good. I understand the plastic blade construction, but think it is way below the quality of the rest of this heli. I will keep mine as a last recourse backup (the paper is still on) although I imagine adjusting tracking on bent blades could be a challange. Kaelan, are you flying an EXI and if so what do you think of it?

Kaelan 05-22-2008 07:04 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

nope.. not flying a EXI.. looks just like a Trex... and (flame suit on) I really don't want to be just another sheep in the herd and fly a Trex like everyone else does. [8D]

RE: EXI 450 thread

Fair enough. I have decided to try a lot of different things to see first hand how they work. Speaking of which, my face is red over those plastic blades. Since my EXI isn't finished, I put the plastics on my Belt CP to test them. Despite being bent, they were very well balanced and tracked beautifully. They were very smooth and quiet in hover and worked well in slow and mid speed forward flight. I'm not up to 3D, but I could find nothing wrong with them as far as I went. I left them on and put my Esky carbon fibers back in their case.

RE: EXI 450 thread

don't get me wrong... I think the Trex is a great heli..but I have always marched to the beat of a different drummer..I refuse to be like everyone else.. guess that's one reason I wear kilts just about daily.. everyone told me to get a Trex... I got a black hawk instead.. I wanted a bigger heli.. everyone said get a Trex 500 or 600... I got a Gaui Hurricane 550...

RE: EXI 450 thread

lets breakdown the costs of this thing

exi barebone kit $99
JustGoFly motor $56
Waypoint esc $49
3 HS65MG $99
1 HS81MG $23
Telebee gyro $60
align pro 325 woodies $13

RE: EXI 450 thread

i asked the guy that worked on the exi 450 about how to fire her up. and this is what he said. keep in mind that these are for the dx6.

Switches on dx6 before connecting lipo. Throttle hold - off , idle up - on, trims centered, throttle stick all the way down, wait for gyro to initalize, then idle- normal, wait for esc to initalize , esc is now armed and heli is ready. Its really cool too because the esc makes these cool sounding tones.

RE: EXI 450 thread

i'm not going to fire her up till Memorial Day. I want to admire it and take some pictures before i crash errrrr i fly it.:D:D

i will post updates on how well she flys then.

RE: EXI 450 thread

Noob...you're killing me!!!! I am dying to hear how she flys!!!! Get that baby in the air!!! Soon please! :D

noobflyer01 05-24-2008 08:49 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

ok. i'd just fired her up for a spinup. WOW. so much power. and i'm talking just a couple of clicks up on throttle. its very intimidating. my eyes lite up and hands started to shake. i can't fire her up in the garage thats too risky. and its already dark out. this beast must be tamed at the park early in the morning where visibility is perfect and wind conditions are optimal.

noobflyer01 05-24-2008 08:53 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

it would also be interesting to see what kind of headspeed i'm getting. man i think this beast can generate more than 2600 headspeed. way more. the sound from it is amazing!

more to come soon!:D

RE: EXI 450 thread

Then Get some more pictures UP!!!!!
I am in the build mode and I am on break right at the moment....god this is exciting

RE: EXI 450 thread

Had 6 flight's on the BH yesterday evening. All went great!:D Did a few loops, and some stall turns, and 3 rolls!:) I'm getting less "pucker factor" the more I fly it. Then I took the HBFP out for a spin. I finally got it flying good, and it is relaxing to just cruise around, flys much better than I gave it credit (now that it's actually trimmed right.) That little sucker will even do good stall turns.:D It's very easy to fly around. ///// ED you lucky dog:D! My wife is the same way,she supports me in about everything I do,you can't beat that. //// Noob, get that puppy up in the air!:) Inquiring minds want to know how it fly's![sm=thumbs_up.gif] Ron

RE: EXI 450 thread

nice Ron.;). pretty soon here you're gonna start talking about that time you did some tictacs and.......:D

the blade tracking for the exi450 is way off. so i have to adjust that. other than that i think she's air worthy. I had some big training gears when i first started and have put them away for a while now. and now i cant find it. i'm not sure what she will do when i fire her up so i'm gonna be cautious and put those trainers back on. wouldn't want to wreck something that took two weeks to finish. but it is nice to know that my LHS is 10 minutes away and have every single parts for trex se:D

here some more pics. did some spinups with it and the pitch curves are off. gonna take a look tommorrow. shouldn't take too long to figure out. just finished blade tracking. tracking is now perfect. i held it tight in my hand away from me and spooled it up all the way up. oh my gosh. this thing is a beast. its so torquey. defintely a 3-d machine. and its very close so. just the pitch and throttle curves and i'm set.

Looks great Noob! THe canopy looks good...did you air brush yourself?

noobflyer01 05-25-2008 11:19 PM

RE: EXI 450 thread

thanks , my brother has an airbrush. he's going to put some clear coat on it. so i'm going to buy a few more white canopys and he'll paint something like batman or spiderman for me.
