Here is the new nosegear. I had to cut and redrill the metal nosegear shaft. I would have liked to keep the shock absorber spring in it but it would have made it too long. It took me less time than I thought it would. If I knew it would be this easy I would have used the metal shafted nose gear in the first place....I'm just glad I made the original nosegear mount removable!

Now the only weak link with the Shuttle is the pilot!

It is Friday night so time to take a break and have one (maybe 2 or 3) martinis!

Hello Carlos,

It is the NASA stickers from KSC that really makes the shuttle!!!

But for the hatches I copied an image from a photo of Shuttle decals in a plastic model web site. Here is the two images Iused. The second one is just a "flip" of the first one. What I did was import the image into a word document (it seemed the easiest to put it into) then I sized it till the entire imagewas 4 inch across. It may be different for you depending on the height of your painted area. Once it looked about right then I printed on regular paper to test fit it. After a couple of attempts I got the correct size to match the amount of black paint Ihad on the side of the nose. Then I printed it on self stick printing paper and cut it out with an exacto knife. Once it was cut out Ispray painted it black to match the shuttle paint. Ialso trimmed some of the "tabs"off the top of the hatch so it didn't stick up to close to the "Enterprise" name. You can see the parts I cut on in my photo compaired to the original graphic.

Also because Ipainted my white area white my self stick printer paper didn't want to stick too good so I put a thin layer of expoy on the back of all my decals except the "real" NASA decals, they stuck much better than the printer paper.

Thanks again for all your help!

Steve

Your welcome!

I edited my post to explain how I had to size, trim, paint and glue them on.

Take Care,

We recieved about 2 to 3 inches of snow yesterday (now on the club field) so I have to hope for a warm spell between snow storms to get a maiden flight in anytime soon! Flurries the next few days, one day of sun then another possable snow storm.

Update:

Got another 18 inches of snow! So unless Ican fly off a frozen lake it looks like the shuttle won't get launched until spring!

Hi Carlos,

We did get a couple of above freezing days and yesterday we did get some rain. Unfortunatley I don't think enough to clear the r/c field. Any place like sidewalks and streets that had been plowed or shoveled are down to bare ground but a grass area like my back yard still has about 4 inches of snow on it.

I was thinking of taking a ride to the R/C field to check it out today with one of my planes that is a belly lander. I don't know if I will get any flights in because the winds are forcast for 20 with gusts to 35 mph but I will see what they are like when I get there. At least I will be able to see the snow conditions on the runway.

Happy New Year!

I checked out the field, still no good as far as anything with landing gear but not as bad as I thought it would be. Someone from the club did some snow removal around the work benches. So hopefully if we get a few warm days before the next storm, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

As you can see by the American flags blowing in the wind I wasn't able to fly any of my "belly landers" today!

Looks perfect to fly RC Airplanes on Friday morning as winds are forecast to be nothing beyond 3MPH in Orlando.

However, the temperature is pretty chilly for my fingers even though I bought some neat grip like gloves.

Will see about Friday morning....

Steve,

Thanks for the updates and yes I am lucky to live in Central Florida! I was terrific weather conditions this past weekend.

If it keeps up, I may fly the Space Shuttle again!

While we wait for better weather conditions for Steve's model, I like to post...

Well, the Space Shuttle Discovery after several delays and issues has finally left it's mark in the history books and flew one more time, this is it's last flight before being retired.

Some pictures using my Canon Rebel XSi Digital SLR camera!

Hello Carlos,

Great photos! I was watching the launch on Fox New (not as good a view as what you had!) but it was nice seeing the launch in HD.

We have had some snow melt but still need a lot more to melt before I may be able to 'launch' my Shuttle. Rain is forcast for tomorrow so I hope it is heavy and gets rid of more snow.

Great Launch today, Congradulations to everyone at NASA on a job well done!

Thank you Steve,

Two more Space Shuttle Flights Left.

On March 3rd I will be participating in the Launch Countdown Demonstration Training to prepare myself for the next Space Shuttle Lunch STS-134.

As far as your model, don't fly it until Airforce Weather Officer gives you the GO!

Regards,
Carlos

Carlos, more great photos!

Well the New England winter has finally released its grip on our R/C field. Although we still get below freezing temps at night during the day it is almost spring like.

I wanted to test the Shuttle landing gear again to see if it would stand up to the grass field. The new nose gear held up but now one of the main gear snapped. The field, maybe because of the winter freeze and thaw seems like it has more bumps in it than last year.

I did a close to take off speed run and only got about 1/3 of the way down the runway when the right main gear snapped. So now I know I need to have some type of working suspension to absorb the bumps on the grass field. The shuttle was bouncing all over the place so I'm going to replace not only the main gear but also the nose gear.

I ordered this gear from China, made by Windrider they look like they will smooth the bumps but the mains have four wheels instead of the Shuttle's two. I can live with that as long as they smooth out the runway.

I'll post as soon as the gear gets delivered and I install them!

Steve
