Default 26mm motor for 60mm EDF?

Greetings!

I need a "26mm" brushless EDF motor for a 60mm fan, and I understand those can be either inrunner or outrunner. I'll be using a 4 cell LiPo battery.

It seems that most manufacturers don't specifically call out the "26mm" dimension that bolts to the fan unit; they use all other types of nomenclature which doesn't help me to identify applicable motors.

First question: which is better - inrunner or outrunner, and why?

Second question: how do I find name-brand motors in this size? I want a good one with lots of power.....

Thanks for your help!

Which 60mm fan unit do you have? All the EDF motors I sell fit the 60mm fan units I know of.

Don,

Thanks for your reply.

It's whatever fans comes in the Starmax 60mm F-14 ARF. I ordered the kit-only version (no electronics).

I would prefer to upgrade the fans if possible, but 60mm doesn't seem to be a popular size and they're hard to find. I notice the 60mm fans on your site are out-of-stock. When are you expecting to have them available again?

Also trying to decide which is best, 3S or 4S, and inrunner or outrunner. Can you help?

Thanks again-

Tony

Those 60mm fan units are the same as the one I sell and they are pretty good actually. You only want to use the 5 blade rotor, not the 3 blade rotor. To make that F14 fly reasonably well you would want to run 4S and the Wicked 4000 motors. That would be about 450-500 watts per fan and the extra power is needed as the ducting on that kit really robs the thrust. I actually flew mine on the Wicked 4400+ motors on 4S at about 1300 total watts and it had plenty of power on that setup until I had a kid in the park where I was flying almost hit me with a RC Hydroboat he was flying and I lost sight of the plane for a few seconds and crashed it [:@] That would be my suggestion as you can still use 40 amp ESCs and then use a 4S 3500 and save a little weight. I had two 60 amp ESC and a 4S 4000 mah lipo so my AUW was a little higher. I did a build over in my forum on RCG. You can see the cheater holes I added as well to help feed the fans. Hope this info helps.

Don,

That's EXACTLY the information I was looking for.

Which motor configuration: standoff and 3mm shaft, or standoff and 3.17mm shaft?

If rules of this forum allow it, could you send me a link to your build? (If not, please email to [email protected])

Thanks so much for your help-

My build thread is located [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1151024]here[/link]

If you got your kit from Hobbyking make sure it has the rotor shaft adapters some kits did not include them. You are suppose to get a 3mm and 3.17mm rotor adapter with the stock fans. The Wicked 4000 motors are 3mm shaft and you would need them with the "standoff adapter and no rotor plug" option.

Don,

I just ordered Wicked 4000 motors and 40A ESCs........if they're NOT the ones you're recommending for the Starmax 60mm F-14, please let me know so we can revise the order.

Thanks so much for your help-
