Default JHH EDF F14 Tomcat

Hi all,

Anybody built the latest F14 EDF from Jet Hanger Hobbies? It really looks great. Check their web site! I have two wemotec mini fans with Graupner 480's. Wonder if it will work? Thinking of getting the kit and try my luck. Any advice?

The designer and most of the builders hang out at rcgroups.com. Go over and check them out.

I don't think the 480's will be up to the task. I recommend going with a good brushless set-up, Hacker, Kontronic, etc.

Hi MNM,

To be successful with our F-14 kit, a high performance brushless setup is the only way to go. Consider that the airplane builds up to be 48 inches long with a 56 inch wing span. The prototype flies at 9 lbs gross takeoff weight (that's with 20 gp3300 cells) and flies beautifully with great authority! We are running 2 mf480s, hacker B40-7L motors, HAcker 70 amp controllers and 20 GP-3300 cells (2 10-cell packs). We are pushing 1100 watts total (550 watts per fan). You'll want at least 1000 watts to ROG as a takeoff run uses up some power....if you are planning to bungee it and fly it as a "belly flopper" then you can get away with less.

Thanks !

Cause we do not have access to all the latest technologies around brushless motors - where will be the best place to get good prices. I have read that many have used brushless motors on the wemotec 480 fan. What brushless motor will work well with this fan to put the F14 in the air!

Regards

MNM

I recommend Hacker B40-7L motors and Hacker Master 70 amp OPTO controllers. That is the setup we are running. All of these are available from us as we are a full dealer for Hacker.

I have been reading some of your responses and wondered where I can order the Hacker B40-7L motors for the JHH EDF F14 Tomcat. I bought the kit over a year ago but due to military obligations was unable to start my build. So now I find myself looking for needed items.

Nomad, this thread is from 2004. I know there are better setups now along with Lipo batteries. Head over to R C Groups and look around for the build threads there. That site is where the EDF action is.

Nomad,

I highly recommend using Neu 1112/1Y motors on 4s. That gives about 1000 watts power (400 more than the Hacker) per fan. That setup flies the F-14 FAR better than the hackers on 3s. We've actually updated our website to show this setup.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I have looked over the web site and am trying to decode everything. Seems I have missed alot in the time I was absent. I plan to research and order what I need in the near future. Much appreciated.
