Default Anyone flying the Walkera SU-27

Is anyone flying this plane, if so how did you power it. Has anyone tryed proped motor set up rather than EDF. I have seen it fly with EDF and it seems stable but not real fast. I have a used one a freind gave me that I'm building and was thinking about putting twin BP 21 motors on it and using 5X3.5 props. Any tips or suggestions would be welcome

The planes float on brushed motors, they are a bit faster with brushless. The airframe has a high amount of drag so upping the power will only give marginal increases in speed. There are a few mods you can do like covering cheater holes, adding a small restrictor in the exhausts to gain some speed in the ducted fan application. It's a good flyer, just don't expect a speed demon.

Thanks Joe, Well I am not going to use the EDF drive in it. I just am not that impressed with the EDF set up, that is why I'm thinking about BP21 or even 400XT with props pushing it
Is there anything that can be done to reduce the drag on it. I don't want it to be a rocket but I would like it to do more than float around
I'm thinking 35 to 45 mph top speed would be good, that would look close enough to scale flight for me, also I would like it to be good with rolls and inverted flight

Well I got it together and have made the maiden flights and I have to say I am impressed. This plane is such a well behaved jet
I used 2 BP 21 1750 rpm 2 18 ESC and 2 3S1300 using 2 stock stryker props and I would say I'm looking at cose to 50 mph flat level flight, it fly's nice at 1/2 throttle and will slow down to a crawl for landing if wanted I would have to say it makes a very impressive presence in the sky. I would definatly recomend this plane to anyone looking at a SU-27, and the EPP foam is a plus as it's tough
It is a bit heavy for a foam plane at just a little under 3 lbs but it flys very nice, definatly just became one of my favorite planes

Nice! I've got the Walkera F-16, F-22 and an unbuilt F-117 for later. They are stable floaters (as I call them), the F-22 almost lands itself with just a little flair. Looks good! BTW, it's the paint that kills the weight.

By the way...simply taking off those hideous canards made that plane look 100% better. Like night and day. Well done, AJ.

Thanks Easy, I replaced the canards with smaller ones that are flush with the bottom of the fuse. that was a pic before I put them on. I think it looks good with them. This plane was given to me by a freind so I never saw the stock canards, they had been cut off before I got it, it does look like they were huge though. Prob why they were removed.

Hello,
Got one of those a while back from BP. Installed Justgofly 400DF motors, covered the cheater holes, added elevator, power it with 2 TP 3 cell 2100's. It's a great flyer, not the fastest jet in my hanger, but it's the one I fly the most. Handles the wind, slows to a crawl for landing, tough foam, sounds so cool. I hold it in mt left hand by the rear end between the two duct outlets and give it an underhanded toss at full throttle. The launch even look cool. Buy it, modify it, and have fun.

Can you show a pic of the rear motor mountings? I may have to try a twin pusher.

Here you go

Here's a little vid of it flying with the 2 BP 21 motors and 11.1 1300 lipoX2

I can't tell you how much I like this plane, I think I'm going to have to buy the F-16 also

That launches with authority. My F-22 takes a bit of a drop before it gets on step and climbs out. Very nice!
