Default GWS Me-262 LG or hand launch?

I'm just putting together my GWS Me-262. I'm trying to decide whether to set it up with the included landing gear/wheels or leave them off and hand launch the aircraft. Our (STARS) field has a well maintained grass runway. I just didn't know if the 262 is up to taking off from a grass strip. Any input ???????

Mark from Extreme RC , takes off on the narcelles on grass , I think thats too easy to ingest something and ruin your fans balance , I would opt for bungee

Use the gear if you have a decent strip, dont try handlaunching, the underslung nacelles cause the plane to nose up on launch and stall. The only handlaunch I have seen successful had from memory a 65mm COG or close to it. We all found 70mm was more than enough COG, anything more and it did not fly very well.

I have fitted the gear in mine as I was sick of cleaning fan housings every 5 flight! You can take off on quite rough fields, the nosegear flexes alot but thats a good thing, absorbs alot of impact.

The new F15 is taking up all my time now, handlaunches are easy peasy!

Hey Extreme RC,

Our field is a typical club field - grass - mowed regularly and well maintained. It may be a trifle uneven (bumpy) in places. Would you use the landing gear in this situation? Do you use the gear or take off & land on the nacelles? I have ruled hand launches out!

Thanks for any input
Richard

Hi Folks,
Well here are a couple pics if my Me 262. This is my first foamie build and I realized how much I have to learn about this aspect of the hobby. It is my first ducted fan also. Thanks for the help & advice.

i am going for my 3rd version. Not successful flying yet. One motor was crapping out, and causes the model to spin out.

Will try some motors I bought from Radical RC.

I had trouble with the impeller blades coming off. Once, just taxiing out to take-off, a blade came flying out the back of the nacelle. It got to where I was cutting the blades off to make 3 bladed rotors, it flew just as well,BTW. One of the original motors crapped out and I used a couple of GP Ammo inrunners. After a lot of flights and some crashes, I got tired of fixing it and trashed it. It was a great flying little airplane. It was stock 64mm GWS fans with the forementioned motors and E-flite 20 Amp ESC's and a Rhino 2300 mAh battery. Oh, and yes I used the landing gear.
Here's my 262 with a couple other jets that I fly now. E-flite BAE Hawk and a HET Sniper rescued from the trash barrel.

I like wheels that are BIG enough to do the job

I always put on much bigger ones in grass. My wheel is TALLER than the grass or I do not take off in it. Just my preference.
