RE: Oakdale F-14 Tomcat
I subscribed here a long time ago and just been waiting for someone to fly one and report on level of difficulty / time consumption to build. look forward to seeing one in the air!
Hey Kevin, I've seen your name around enough to know that you know what you are doing and don't need ideas from me. I did some testing w/ a number of medusa motors in the Midi and you've likely already seen this. No test at 2000 w on 10s but around 2800watts on 10s, 76 amps, 8lbs 10oz thrust. This is on 1300kv motor and I had tons of flights in the Savex L-39 w/ this set up. I'd bet the 36-60-1100kv motor would get you closer to 2200 watts on 10s and you could easily bump that to 11s or even 12s later. On 10s you could probably power both motors w/ single 5000ma lipo set up as the amps would be low.

Video of L-39 on 1300kv w/ 10s first half, 11s 2nd half. Both powerful, 11s pretty crazy and demagged after 5 hard flights. 11s too much for 60mm long 1300kv motor.

Somebody get this hot looking Tomcat in the air!

RE: Oakdale F-14 Tomcat
Kevin,
Thanks for the note on the clear canopy, I just couldn't imagine a Tomcat without one.
I'm working on a 1/10th scale Avonds F-14 and I bought 2 - DS-94's for it so I wouldn't have any problem with a pair of DS-51's. I'm partial to the Neu motors but I talked to Daniel Schubeler last week and he told me about the new DS-94 HST that is coming out and I wonder now if he also has a new DS-51? The HST has a high volume (super high torque) motor built by Schubeler included with the fan. I don't know the price yet. Can you say ouch?
When you decided on the Oakdale F-14 did you look at and consider the one from Aldous Yuen? Seems like a 62" fuselage would leave a little more room for batteries. Do you feel there is enough room in the Oakdale fuselage?
David

RE: Oakdale F-14 Tomcat
Well, Untill you asked this question I was under the impression the Oakdale and Aldous F-14's were the same size.
With all the online bickering that want on between Russ and Aldous I thought the two planes were essentialy the same but diverged just before they went into production.
I think I'll have plenty of room for my two TP 4600 5S packs will fit into my Oakdale F-14, my 5000S BVM Electra packs likley will not.
Had I known the Aldous was 10% larger I would have chosen it over the Oakdale design.
I'd still be waiting. Aldous had family issues that have prevented his from going into production.
Are you the guy that has his Avonds on a personal web page ? Googling Avonds F-14 some time ago I saw a local modeler working on one.
Do you expect to have it done for Ohio E-Jets next summer ?

RE: Oakdale F-14 Tomcat
Hello, all of you. I took a vacation a little. I'm sorry. As for my specifications, as for the motor as for HACKER-B50 ESC Jeti-Spin FAN is Air-power AP900. Battery is the whole thought .It is thrust 2kg on an FAN simple substance test at an acquaintance. Is two deployment in this; body weight (including battery) 4 kilos a little.A clear canopy and a cockpit are own work. And, as for Gear, this chose Air-Power.
Then my expectation does not open and close the main wing. I like the figure which merely widened a feather of merely TOMCAT. I do not feel the figure of the landing. Therefore, LED incorporates it and is already considered to be the main wing and a vertical tail.

Awesome looking plane and I love F-14's, but super pricey for a 58" wingspan plane(even though it is fully composite). Much cheaper of course then a turbine plane, but this one only fits 90mm fans(x2).
EJF.com has a foam F-14 thats 48" ws and is only $99.
X-flight.hk has an f-14 with swing wing. Price is $99 I think.
