Thank you!!! I have the Byron Mig -15 new (1982) still in the box. I started the making EDF as well. I just needed some ideas and your detail on the A4 will help out alot I will be using a 5inch fan and 1400kv motor. Like you will try on 10 cell at first testing. I would like to make it lighter . I'm hoping under 10LB. I just wanted to say thank you again

Hi Paul,

The proper cell count is dependent upon your fan choice and motor so perhaps you can elaborate on which 5" DF and motor you are using.

My Neu 1527/1.5Y motor with an 825Kv works well on a 12s LiPo supply with the 5" E-Turbax DF. The ARC 36-75-1 works well on an 8s LiPo supply with its 1680Kv on a WeMoTec Midi Pro 90mm DF. Your choice of a 10s LiPo supply on a motor with 1400Kv sounds reasonable but it also depends on the rotor used.

Good luck on your project and keep us posted!

BYRON MIG WILL NEED A BUNCH OF NOSE WEIGHT.PUT THE FAN AS FAR FORWARD AS POSSIBLE . 12 TO 14 LBS. AS A DYNAMAX OS.91 R IGHT WING FAIRING IS 3 DEGREES DIFFERENT THAN LEFT..

Hey guys,

I know this is an older post but wanted to meet a few A-4 "jocks" Have two Skyhawks, one JHH and one Yellow both being converted to electric. I've been waiting on motors from Neu for sometime now. Seems they are backordered or something going on... Anyway, here are a couple of pics. Let me know what you think.

Actually, the Blue Angel is a Yellow Aircraft and the Hawaiian Scooter A-4 is a Jet Hangar Hobby kit. I fly with Chris Wolfe, JHH owner Larry Wolfe's son. He has told me the story about why the two planes looks so simular. JHH actually purchased the rights to the A-4 from Yellow. (Or perhaps it was the other way around...) Thats why the kits looks so close, however there are differences. Yellow's fuselage is wider behind the inlets and JHH's fuselage tapers a bit. Also, the vertical stab is part of the fuse (fiberglass construction) as opposed to the JHH, the vertical stab is built up.

My Blue Angel has a scale wing (45") and the Hawaiian Scooter has a sport wing (47").

TopCat,

Just a slight correction, we purchased the rights to the A-4 from Bob Violett as that is originally his design. The Yellow came some time later, well after we had obtained the rights to the BV design. The biggest tellers between our A-4 and the yellow is that the tail end on the yellow is quite a bit larger than ours (it was originally opened up to suit a Byron fan). Also, ours has a 1 piece removable with, while the yellow does not.

Hey there folks. I know I'm resurecting an older forum but I had a few questions and was wondering if I could get some help. First off fantastic A-4. Well done. I may be getting this kit from a friend but didn't want to drop a whole bunch of cash to bring it together. Not because I'm cheap but because I have a whole slew of kit here and was wondering if I might be able to use what was to hand?

Now I'm going to be getting the Byron fan unit and testing it with my Scorpion S-4035-460. the Scorpion is rated for 75 amps on 11s. I've seen threads where people have had it up to 95amps on 12s. Either way It is a powerful outrunner and I was wondering what any of your thoughts might be? All info is helpful

Another thing I was wondering about is that big hole in the bottom. Has anyone filled it in completely? I think that with todays batteries and ducting techniques we could do away with the vacuum nozzle. What are your thoughts guys?

On the motor your going to want to use the 4035-630 12s or 4035-800 10s. Your call but the 400 your trying to use is going to take a long time to get the A-4 off the ground it is a big A-4. I've flown on a 500 and it was not fun barely able to get up in the air. That was back in the 20-25c days so maybe with 40-60c packs you may do better. But the 630 really help get my bird flying even when battery was on the weak side. Good Luck.
