Default Y/A F18 single setup

Hi Guys,
was wondering what edf setup would suit my Y/A F18 single. Been looking at the E-TURBAX fan with NEU 1524 motor putting out about 13lb. Would this be the best setup for the money.

Cheers

Go with the XPS system it would rock in that plane! Their has been a a few done already. The Stumax would be nice also but the XPS-dynamax would be by far the best bang for the buck and it would fit right into the yellow ducting.

Here is the link to one on RCG. I love the yellow planes I have the F16. Post some pics bro would love to see it!

Cheers gunradd,
truth is i have turbnie for this model but as i bought it second hand i thought i would test the airframe integrity with edf before i fit the turbine.
Have been offered an E-turbax for £90 and just wnted to keep it cheap.
Will post some pics as i re-build this model for you. Will check out the price of the dyn-e-max tho.

cheers

The XPS system uses a little screamers outrunner motor on a Dynamx fan. Makes a ton of power and is only around 430 dollars for the fan and motor. I saw a 45 pound fly eagle tomcat fly with this system using 2. And it did not just limp around it swept the wings and moved out well.

BTW I preffer and use the BVM EVF but the XPS system is much cheaper and I am all for getting more people into large EDF so we get more jet kits made for this

There's nothing wrong with the E-Turbax, especially if your getting it dirt cheap! It would power the 18 rather well - hoever you may need to do some minor duct mods to mate it to the stock ducting.

Steve keep us updated. I would love to see a build thread on it with the XPS set up. And it will fly like a raped ape with that fan and sound real good. LOL you might not switch to turbine after you fly it.

Well on your first flight you will need to fly only about 3 mins then land. You then check and see how much power you put back into the batteries. Then go up from their. You dont want your cells to go under about 3.5 volts per cell. For expample I have 6500mah batteries on my F16. I know thet when I am charging them I want to be around 5000 mah put back into them. If I am putting more then I need to fly a little less or if its less then I can fly more. But 3 mins is a good safe starting point.

I highly recommend reading this link. Its from the BVM site but applies to all lipos.

http://www.bvmjets.com/Pages/Required_Reading.htm

And make sure you also read the link on that page that is called battery basics by Chris True.

It all looks like another language at first but you will get it lol. Its not to hard once you start messing with it.

no problem. I have just learned most of this the hard way . I don't have a close field to fly turbines so I must do EDF and I also work on full scale turbines all day and don't care to do it after work. I like plugging in and flying.

I think they are all at arizona jets today and through out the weekend. Yes last time I looked it was 439 for a fully assembled unit balanced and ready to go with motor and fan. You just need an ESC and batteries. I run the CC140 on my EVF and love it.

With the dynEmax fan you are good bro. No inlet ducting mods. You just need to find a spot to cram the batts. All the yellow kits for ducted fan where done for the dynamax fan.

Ok,
fan, motor and cc110hv on order. Im thinking of going with the zippy 30c 5800mah lipo packs. Any thoughts on this. Also the model is second hand and has been flown on elevons and flaps only. Does anyone know how they fly on this setup.
I personally prefer ailerons but this would mean further chopping of the model. Is it worth doing?

cheers

Hi Guys,
any chance you could tell me the size of main wheel and nose wheel needed for the F18. I will be flying off grass so wont be needing brakes.
Also i am making my own nose leg unless someone has one they dont need so if anyone knows the length it should be it would be of great help.

cheers

Hi Guys, anyone know the correct C of G for this model? Manual says 12" from trailing edge at the wing root.

cheers

12.5 is the c of g that you want. limit your flight to 2 minutes. That is the safe zone for the power system.
There have been some problems with the XPS motors. They are trying to get another motor for the fan.
They did not have any systems for sale at Arizona and heck that was the reason I wanted to go. I have the
DS94 in mine but I have had motor and speed control problems. I have the CChv110 controller and it just died.
